The first BLACKSOULS game has many endings you can get, which are significantly different from one another. Some of the endings have specific requirements that are difficult to fulfill so having a general guide is nice and that’s what this post is for.
Along with the basic explanations of every ending in the first BLACKSOULS game, you will also have the checklist of requirements you need to meet to be able to get some of them.
I will be going by alphabetical order – there are in total 4 endings.
There are 10 Companion Endings that are different versions of Ending B.
Contents
Ending A
Ending A is probably the most peaceful ending you can get in the game. It can pose a difficulty to get it because if you rush too much, i.e. slain too many Demonic Princesses, certain companions will become unavailable and you’ll just have to repeat the cycle and go into NG+ to try again.
For Ending A you need to have 0 Sin and you need to save all companions.
Not all companions have the same requirements for being saved and a lot of them have very different situations. Here are the abbreviated explanations, for further steps check their linked posts.
To get Catherine as your companion you need to save her from her demonbeast guards in one part of the Skeleton Maze, but only after saving Jeanne first. Then make sure the Dog of Elixir is gone from the Cathedral at the Town of Elixir – talk to her there.
To get Dorothy as your companion you have to become her apprentice and finish a few tasks for her.
To get Elisabeth as your companion you need to find her ring once she loses it and goes to the upper part of the Holy Forest to search for it.
To get Elma as your companion you need to kill the Pied Piper of Elixir along with the Knight in Armor, then visit her match shop and kill her mother.
To get Goose as your companion you need to free her from her shackles at the Behemoth Ranch. She will be a banker in the eastern part of the Holy Forest, deposit 1000 souls or more, and kill a Demonic Princess, then after she steals your money find her at a tent at the Sea of Tresh and don’t forgive her – you will be able to ask her then to be your companion.
To get Jeanne as your companion get her ashes where Drake Helkaiser appears in the prologue, kill Trashlord Kraken at the Sea of Trash, and go to Skeleton Maze to ask Shaman Keto to revive her.
To get Leaf as your companion just go to the northern part of the Holy Forest and meet her there for the first time.
To get Miranda as your companion make sure you have 5 or more sins, which you can buy from Sinful Donell, and then find her at the northern part of the Tainted Bog area where the entrance to the Subterranean Land K’n-Yan is and defeat her in a fight.
To get Victoria as your companion go to Rotten Burg and then into the House of Truth, kill the Iron King, go to her room, and feed her souls.
Ending B
The Ending B is the easiest ending to get in the game. All you have to do is follow the original task you’re given at the beginning of the game – to free Elysium you need to defeat all Demonic Princesses, and when you do that traverse with the fog placed on Cinderella’s lair and proceed to end the game.
However if one of your companions is level 100 or higher, you can touch the fog along with your companion and get a special companion ending instead of just a regular B ending, and each one of them is unique and quite interesting.
Ending C
The Ending C is a little bit more difficult to get but it’s also one of the most interesting endings you can get in the game because it reveals a lot of the lore and brings a lot of questions regarding the game’s general storyline.
To get this ending all you have to do is find all fairytales in the game, there are 32 of them, and once you do go to Alice’s Library – an area in Wonderland guarded by Bandersnatch.
Getting to Wonderland isn’t hard.
Once you fill all the bookshelves, both in the normal room and the originally locked room (aka the Kill area) in Alice’s Library, pull the lever that will show up, save the game if you need to, and then embrace yourself for chaos.
It will be revealed that Leaf is actually Mary Sue, and basically the God of Elysium and that she’s the main cause for all mayhem happening in the world. Eventually, you will have to reveal to her that you know her true identity, and afterward fight her.
Ending D
Another interesting ending in the first BLACKSOULS game is Ending D. It’s also full of lore implications and it’s important for understanding the game’s overall story.
You will need to go to the Black Judge Baphomet, who’s waiting for you at the Black Court area which you can get to by going through the Subterranean Land K’n-Yan, which you can come into through the Tainted Bog after defeating the Lust Demon Satyr.
When you go and talk to Baphomet make sure you don’t have any sins otherwise she will attack you. Accept Baphomet’s tasks and finish them successfully.
Kill Pinnochio, Clock Croc, Nameless Demon, and finally the Prayer Master.
Then you will want to marry Baphomet and allow her to go to the Holy Forest, and just watch everything unfold. This is the most exciting ending in my opinion at least – a lot of interesting things happen.
You will have to fight Baphomet and stand on Leaf’s side. Once you manage to overcome her when she takes the form of the Black Goat of the Woods With a Thousand Young, she will die and you will be left alone with Leaf.
But eventually, Alice will come and Leaf will be in total disbelief. Alice will claim you as her lover and the game will end there, giving you the Ending D.
Companion Endings
There are 10 Companion Endings in BS1 and each one of them revolves around one of the companions. To be able to get one of these endings in the first place you need to defeat Cinderella, then bring the companion of your choosing to the fog that appears on her throne, and then touch the fog with your companion.
Companion Endings are different versions of Ending B.
To touch the fog with one of your companions you need to bring it to level 100 or higher.
There’s also a secret part of the endings revealed only if you have Leaf’s Ring with you.
Leaf Ending
Demonic princesses are defeated and the fog and the demonbeasts vanish like they never existed, the world is back to normal. You return to the Holy Forest, and Leaf welcomes you back with a smile on her face.
Leaf is glad you finally beat Cinderella, even though you were so weak when she met you for the first time. Leaf has a very tender expression on her face, and she asks you if you’re going to always live here because she loves you a lot.
She lands on your shoulder and “whispers love in your ear”, you gently caress her with your index finger and she nuzzles against it, quite happily. You think about how living there doesn’t sound too bad, and “under rays of sun filtering through trees the two of you enjoy the gentle breeze”.
Bad Ending
Leaf’s bad ending is the only bad companion ending that doesn’t require Leaf’s Ring. To get her bad ending you need to finish Ending C first.
The scene starts with Leaf laughing and she is still smiling like in the regular version of her companion ending, but this time she’s fully covered in blood. Leaf says that this is just the beginning, claiming that she’s the author, the character, the mastermind, or maybe even the princess.
She says how she will perform any role perfectly, even the one where she has to die. Leaf addresses you then as “Grimm”, following up with how this is her love letter – “sweet happy endings, gloomy bittersweet endings, hopeless bad endings, all. All I give you”. She then continues laughing and the scene ends.
Elma’s Ending
Several years have passed since the demonic princesses were defeated, and you decided to open an apothecary in a city with Elma. Elma is very happy to run an apothecary with you, and her medicine is selling well.
Elma’s medicine helps with stress and health, there are no side effects to it, and everyone loves it. There are troublesome rumours though, as its ingredients are kept secret. Elma doesn’t want to show you how she makes the medicine, and she goes out once a week to gather the ingredients for it.
Elma is going outside again and she tells you to not worry, and that she can protect herself. You worry about Elma because recently more and more women are getting kidnapped nearby.
After you two exchange a few kisses she will finally head out, and you will go to the kitchen to prepare some food. Elma wants to earn a lot of money so you can marry and have a happy family in a big house.
Bad Ending
That night Elma didn’t return. The kidnapper who has been kidnapping all those girls has been caught and executed – there was a large crowd gathered on the plaza the following morning, and the kidnapper is a petite girl, now hanging from the noose, Elma.
Jeanne‘s Ending
After the demonic princesses were defeated the fog was cleared and there were no demonbeasts anymore. Jeanne is glad this journey ended and she’s curious if you would like to visit her motherland, saying how she wants to thank you as much as she can.
You agree to visit her motherland and once both of you arrive you two are paraded as the heroes who saved the world. On that day a grand banquet was held with you and Jeanne as the main stars.
Jeanne will be wearing a beautiful white dress, and you will finally see how she looks in clothing other than her armor. She is shy, saying how this is her first time at such a party, and eventually, she will ask you if you would give her a dance.
You then take Jeanne’s hand and she expresses she’s glad that she met you, she’s embarrassed as she declares her love for you. And then you two dance elegantly.
Bad Ending
Suddenly, a dazzling light illuminates the hall, the nobles are shocked looking through the window, as great flames fall from the sky. “The great blaze spreads, covering cities and forests, not sparing anyone”. Jeanne is shocked, questioning how can God be so ruthless after both of you carried your mission.
You hug Jeanne who’s now crying, covering her body with your body to protect her from the incoming flames. Windows burst from the heat and flames enter the hall turning everyone around you to ash. Jeanne is screaming as she’s being getting burned alive, again. Nothing will remain of her besides dust, and not even her soul is left.
The scene ends with you crying in the country that became ash, for the first time truly cursing your undeath. Nothing is left besides ash, and “you can only keep screaming her name like crazy”.
Victoria’s Ending
After stopping the fog and saving the world, after bidding your farewells you bought a mansion in a distant forest and settled there with Victoria. Victoria became an excellent maid that does all the housework just for you.
Even though everything seems to be perfect, there’s a problem that can’t be overlooked, and tonight you are meeting her in your bedroom again. Victoria lifts her skirt and announces how it’s time for her “nightly duty”.
The problem is that Victoria is a succubus and if you don’t keep her company every night, she will die. Succubi tattoos will appear all over Victoria and she will grow wings on her back and her head, all while declaring her love for you.
Both of you get on the bed and the scene ends.
Bad Ending
Countless nights have passed and then it happened without a warning, Victoria can’t control herself anymore and she seeks you, her master, during the day and even when you work – it’s so frequent that it’s gotten to a point where it’s uncontrollable.
Victoria doesn’t realize why there has to be a limit between how many times you can keep her company a day, and she is confused, thinking that you must hate her she will beg you to not leave her.
Victoria falls on the ground while screaming in tears, she falls into a fetal position, and “her body convulses”. You try to put your hand on her shoulder to comfort her but then Victoria scoops one of your eyes out with a spoon she has hidden, she is very happy to have your eye.
She will remark how your body is so convenient because you will revive no matter how many times you die. Victoria wants to lock you in the basement and do bad things to you forever.
You will shed bloody tears, not knowing why she went crazy nor what caused this kind of behavior, but then all of a sudden Victoria will be confused as well.
She will say how she heard the voice of lady Mary Sue – and then she will proceed to have an existential crisis, doubting her existence while asking you to kill her, but that won’t work as her “other side” will take over and throw you on the floor. You will have to kill Victoria on the spot because she started turning into a demonbeast.
Apparently, you knew this was going to happen one day, as she was already a half-beast affected by the fog, “it was always too late”. But you still love Victoria and will love her forever, so you take her freshly severed head and body to keep her company in the bedroom that night as well.
Red Hood‘s Ending
All demonic princesses are defeated and there is no fog anymore, even the demonbeasts have disappeared, but Red Hood looks like she still has something on her mind bothering her. You two have started living together in an isolated house in the forest, although not as a couple in love.
Red Hood will tell you there’s something she must examine, and she’d appreciate it if you did all the housework. Red Hood is still searching for something, but at least she enjoys your cooking – she remarks how it’s the first time someone cooked for her.
After a few years, Poro and Red Hood vanished all of a sudden, only leaving a letter on the table. The letter is addressed to you, and she’s telling you how she won’t return for a while and that you can wait for her or leave, either way is fine with her. She wrote that you shouldn’t look for her, as the demonic princesses were victims too, and she’s going to kill one behind it all.
Red Hood apologizes in the letter for being selfish, she doesn’t want to involve you in this, following up with “I couldn’t show it properly… but it’s not like I’m not interested in you. If you do wait for me to come back, then… I want you to welcome me as just an ordinary girl”.
She ends the letter by saying how she doesn’t know what’s going to happen, but she says that she won’t lose and that this story won’t end as long as she’s alive.
Bad Ending
The bad ending for Red Hood’s ending is short.
After a little bit of silence, her dialogue appears out of nowhere, and then the companion ending ends.
“…Too bad for you.”
“I won’t die”
“Until I cut off your head.”
Catherine’s Ending
Cinderella is defeated and light fills the world, Catherine is very happy as she kneels in a prayer. She then asks you if you two should return now because she wants to welcome you into her country. In her country, Catherine was recognized as a pivotal saint and you were appointed as her only personal knight.
You two barely have any personal time though, all because of the work keeping both of you busy. Catherine wishes to spend some alone time with you but asks you to keep that remark a secret as her duty is to devote only to God.
As Catherine blushes embarrassingly, you take her hand and steal a kiss, and then both of you start kissing, “it’s as if you’re claiming her body as yours, refuse the divine claim”. She’s telling you how you two can’t, and both of you back off from the kiss, and she looks at you with moist eyes, following up with how she needs to finish the prayer in the cathedral.
The scene ends with you thinking how it would be a good idea if both of you left this narrow-minded country and went somewhere else, just the two of you.
Bad Ending
The bad ending opens with a believer shouting “Ia! Ia! Shub-Niggurath…”.
You wake up and enter the corridors of the church only to find believers “recite some questionable incantations”. People are now talking about “The black goat of the woods with a thousand young”, the sky is dyed red, and everyone seems like they’re in a trance.
One of the believers says “Ph’nglui mglw’nafh fhthagn-ngah cf’ayak ‘vulgtmm vugtlag’n!”, and you hurry off to find Catherine to leave this mad place, but more believers start shouting even weirder things such as “Syha’h stell’bsna! Mnahn’ uh’e!”, as well as more Shub-Niggurath chants.
When you open the gates of the cathedral you can see Catherine on the altar, being sacrificed to the Black Goat. You cut everyone who’s in your way and rush towards Catherine, but before you can reach her dark tentacles erupt from her body and cover the entirety of the place of worship.
Even though you scream her name, the black abyss consumes all.
Then an Evil God makes an appearance with “Everyone, sorry to make you wait~! Boys and girls, it’s time for me to give you an indescribably good harvest!”, only to be left confused not knowing who even summoned it in the first place.
Miranda’s Ending
The demonic princesses are dead, and Miranda throws off the blood from the edge of her axe. Now that Cinderella lost, the world is saved. Miranda tells you to go but you ask her where, and she says “To fight someone even stronger….. and kill them…..”, and that’s what you two end up doing.
You hunt down the remaining demonbeasts and leave only “rivers of blood and mountains of corpses in your wake”. This is your life now, fighting nonstop with Miranda by your side – the scene cuts to “the rising sun in a sea of corpses, surrounded by puddles of blood and stench of death”.
You can see then Miranda staring at you with “an angelic smile”, she even tells you that she loves you, and as the excitement of the battle hasn’t left you two yet, after a fight ends you always cuddle like this.
You and Miranda kiss, and she declares how she wants a baby with you.
You wonder what will happen when there’s no one left to fight but go back on your words quickly saying how such a day may never come, and how an “era of absolute peace is only a dream”.
“This is the original sin of humanity. For as long as we live, we fight.”
Bad Ending
You two are still endlessly fighting – demonbeasts, brigands, newborn demonic princesses, and even the Black Trial come out of their way to fight you. Miranda and you are still fighting without resting, and that’s a problem considering Miranda is just a human girl and not an undead.
You ask Miranda to rest but she refuses, asking you if you don’t trust her, but even though you tell her it’s only because you worry about her, she says how she’ll rest after dealing with these. Miranda points to a castle occupied by the empire Longaia, and you will have to get through millions of soldiers and weapons of war to get there.
The two of you agree to do it though, but the memory of what happened is unclear. After a description of brutal killings and morbid imagery of war, you open your eyes again and empire Longaia is gone, among rubble and corpses she’s still standing, solemn in appearance.
So you decide to touch her hand, but her body trembles and falls, “Miranda is already long dead”. You are cursed with undeath so you can’t die, and now you’re all alone without her, but you notice a calm and content smile on her face.
The sun rises and a cry of a newborn can be heard all of a sudden.
Dorothy‘s Ending
Demonic princesses are defeated, there’s no fog anymore, and the world is back to normal. Dorothy is laughing as she’s now the strongest witch, her lifelong dream is finally fulfilled, so Dorothy asks you to join her to rule the world together, as you’re her greatest pupil.
You will be able to take anything you want, but not women, Dorothy is against that. You clasp Dorothy’s hand and she smiles – “she was polishing the world conquest plan for hundreds of years”, that now finally came to fruition.
All countries became a part of your and Dorothy’s country, and now you two can become the world’s king and queen. But then it cuts to a scene of you making Dorothy cook without anything on besides an apron, and she’s quite flustered.
She tells you that a pupil can’t do this sort of stuff to a master, but you correct her by saying that you’re husband and wife, now that the wedding ceremony has finally finished. Dorothy will call your preferences weird, stating that she’s a man, or that she was at least one before.
But that doesn’t matter to you, as she’s a woman in body and mind regardless.
That leads to a deep kiss that she gladly accepts, and then you embrace her and most likely make love to her as that’s where the cutscene ends.
Bad Ending
The scene starts with Dorothy screaming in the dead of the night. You jump out of bed only to see that her stomach has swollen to an abnormal degree. Dorothy questions whether this is pregnancy, but it’s too swollen and unnatural to be one, and it hurts her a lot too.
Dorothy is screaming in pain and her stomach is growing and squirming. She’s begging you to save her but you don’t know what to do, so you grasp her hand and her nails bite into your flesh while she’s trembling – Dorothy screams in pain and agony, afraid of dying and being separated from you, and then she most likely exploded.
Blood covers the room, and it is uncertain what she got “pregnant” with.
The thing that she gave birth to lets out a first cry, and then smiles eerily.
Goose‘s Ending
Demonic princesses are extinct, the fog is gone, and the demonbeasts are gone as well, but the world is still a cold place, “many abhor undead, and few believed you to be the hero”.
You are cast out from the country which leaves you in a long search for a place where you belong. While aimlessly wandering through the forest, Goose jumps down from a tree and calls out to you.
You and Goose are looking for a town where you can live together, but can’t find one as undead and demi-humans aren’t welcome anywhere. Winter is coming and you are still searching for a proper home, but she will tell you not to be depressed, as your little one is waiting.
This cuts to a scene with Goose and what appears to be your and Goose’s child. You both climb up onto a large tree that’s the current home of the new family you established with her. The child welcomes you back, but it’s bad with emotions as it has never laughed or smiled yet.
You are concerned about it but Goose says that laugh will be the proof that happiness truly came to all of you.
Bad Ending
The scene starts with the information that Goose is now working as a mail girl, she stopped being a thief. Her being able to fly is really helpful as she can easily reach places that are hard to reach on foot.
Goose didn’t come home one night, you waited with the child, but eventually, you went out to search for her. With the kid on your back, you venture into the dark forest, and you eventually find her, but not in the best state out there which makes you regret bringing the kid along with you.
Goose is beaten up and her corpse is broken. You find her head, her face is crushed so much that you can’t even make out her last expression. And that’s when the child starts laughing for the first time, and you instantly remember what Goose said that one time, how the child’s laugh will be proof that happiness truly came.
The child is still laughing and it’s sickening you so much that you lose yourself and strangle the child. When you come back to your senses you let your hands off the child’s neck, but it’s too late.
Suddenly there are even more beings laughing, as “from the distance you hear laugh of countless children”.
Elisabeth’s Ending
Cinderella is dead and only the throne of the Lost Empire remains. Elisabeth is laughing as she will now become the true queen, a new ruler of the Lost Empire – Elisabeth Bathory. Elisabeth’s true nature is exposed and nothing will change if this continues, but you can’t stop her as you are already a prisoner of Elisabeth’s charm.
Elisabeth has also taken a liking to you and she wants you to be hers – she wants you to protect her, attack for her, and she also wants you to be a loving husband when required. You can’t escape Elisabeth and you kneel and swear fealty.
Elisabeth declares her love for you, and you can only be happy when you’re by her side, you can’t think of anything else but her. The “new meance” arose in the Lost Empire and you wonder whether people will try to stop the demonic princess Elisabeth.
Bad Ending
Many heroic warriors tried to reach Elisabeth but all of them were slain by you. Elisabeth laughs because she knows as long as you’re with her, nobody will ever be able to reach her. But then she stops laughing, and suddenly her body pops like a balloon, and Elisabeth Bathory is dead.
