Black Judge Baphomet

HomeBLACKSOULSBlack Judge Baphomet

Black Judge Baphomet is the leader of the Black Trial and an enemy you can fight in the first BLACKSOULS game. She’s also the 15th of the Great Arcana, the ruler of the Black Mass, and one of the most difficult enemies to defeat in the game. She’s very significant for the game’s story.

Appearances | BS1

Baphomet appears for the first time in the first BLACKSOULS game. She’s in a little bit hidden part of the game so it’s possible that you never encountered her before. She’s crucial for Ending D.

Meeting Baphomet

You can find Baphomet in her lair – Black Court. She’s going to be sitting there waiting for you to talk to her. If you have any number of sins you will not be able to start her questline and you will be attacked instead, and most likely defeated.

Fighting the Black Judge Baphomet

Fighting Baphomet is quite interesting, she’s one of the strongest enemies in the game and difficult to defeat. She also has a 2nd phase that’s difficult to overcome – Baphomet turns into a Black Goat Baphomet and is quite furious because you even attempted to fight her.

Baphomet’s Quest

When you finally get to Baphomet’s lair you will be able to engage with her questline, but only if you don’t have any sins and if you’re willing to do certain tasks for her.

The Black Trial’s main goal is eliminating sinners, so by doing quests for her, i.e. killing certain enemies that’d usually be optional, you’re contributing to the Black Trial and their mission.

Baphomet's quests

The first mission is to kill Pinocchio, who can be found at Hotel Poseidon. You will get 20 Divine Blessings as a reward – a consumable that completely restores HP and MP.

The second mission is to kill Clock Croc, who can be found at the Empty Beach. You will get the Exorcist’s Ring as a reward – it gives 20%+ resistance to all ailments.

The third mission is to kill Leonard, i.e. the Nameless Demon, who can be found at the end of the Forest of Sabbath. You will get the Ring of Unfathomable – it gives 40%+ critical strike chance.

And the fourth and final mission is to kill the Prayer Master, who can be found in the Holy Forest. He’s the hardest enemy to defeat, and there’s a good chance you will have a lot of trouble with his fight.

The reward for the last mission is forming a covenant with Baphomet, which also includes an NSFW sequence that’s quite long and rewarding. You will also get the Baphomet’s Favor, a strong ring that greatly increases all stats but sets MP to 0.

Ending D Showdown

After you finish all of Baphomet’s missions and if you form a covenant with her, when you go talk to her again after all that you will get the option to have her come to the Holy Forest.

If you allow her to do so prepare for the end of the world, as she’s about to cause a lot of death and chaos.

Even Hein will acknowledge that when you talk to him at the bonfire at the Black Court, he will run away.

Clicking on the bonfire will take you to the Holy Forest that’s completely ravished with everyone inside it dead. It will be snowing and you will be only able to go down to the Path to Lower Layer, and then a door that leads to a dark room with Leaf inside it.

She will plead for your help and Baphomet will jumpscare you.

Baphomet will attack, taking the form of the Black Goat of the Woods With a Thousand Young. This is the hardest boss – she goes to completely destroy the world you’re all in, as she’s a Great One. Killing her will give you a Large Black Soul.

Baphomet's ultimate form

Defeating Baphomet will throw her into a crisis and she will even begin calling Leaf her own daughter, but Leaf will deny that instantly, kinda confused because of her remark. And then Baphomet will die along with all of your current companions.

Alice will appear then, condemn Mary Sue, and claim you as her lover.

Sabbath and Dorothy

According to Dorothy, the real Baphomet was actually Leonard, and the character known as the Black Judge Baphomet stole his title after most likely defeating him in a fight. Glinda’s diary talks a bit about her and Leonard’s last moments, where the sky turned red and the world started breaking after she summoned some unusual demons.

Leonard is now the Nameless Demon, who visually looks quite tormented, and the Forest of Sabbath where the Sabbath was organized is now overtaken by the Black Trial.

More is said about this in the Chaos Dungeon Library in BS2.

Appearances | BS2

Baphomet’s appearances in the second BLACKSOULS game are quite brief – she doesn’t make a major return as a character.

Chaos Dungeon Library

One of the areas inside the Chaos Dungeon has a library that has some useful information about certain events and characters in the game.

According to the library, the Good Witch Glinda summoned the Black Goat of the Woods with a Thousand Young and then that entity took root in that land, “intending on ruling it and propagating”. This is when the Black Goat took Leonard’s title, leaving him just to be a Nameless Demon.

That’s how the Black Goat was caught in the Lost Empire, “manipulated by Mary Sue to be another actor on the stage of her play”.

The bookshelf entry ends with the following text in red, which is most likely written by Leaf or it’s her actual opinion.

“It’s just, you know…”

“I wanted to see how mother would react when she saw my very own tale”

“It was such a let-down”

Since a significant part of BLACKSOULS uses the Cthulhu Mythos, it’s fair to assume Shub-Niggurath is Baphomet, as she has the same Black Goat title in the mythos just like how it’s described in the game. Information from another bookshelf references the fact that a female character (probably Leaf) had an identical twin – Nug and Yeb are the offspring of Shub-Niggurath and Yog-Sothoth. Baphomet in the first game refers to Leaf as her daughter.

Chaos Dungeon

Baphomet appears in the Chaos Dungeon during Ashes Reignited as the Black Goat That Births Madness. Mabel can summon her during her fight. She can appear in the Boss Room in regular Chaos Dungeon levels once you defeat the Old King.

Chaos Dungeon Description

Spawned, the twin Great Ones inherited their mother’s will. They would create a new Garden and an organization, and begin the hunt for black souls.

Personality

As a leader of the Black Trial, Baphomet is decisive and a great leader. She judges those who commit sins and persecutes them with physical punishment.

Having a huge amount of strength, she’s determined to beat a sinner no matter what, and she is also quite mysterious, so be careful while you’re around her. Baphomet is very alluring.

Design

Baphomet is one of the most beautiful girls in the entirety of the first game, although only if you can ignore her body hair which is literally spread everywhere through her entire body.

She has long light brown hair, one of her eyes is red, the other one is blue, and overall her form just resembles a goat-like archdemon, because she is one.
