Mabel, Girl of Nihility, is an important character in BLACKSOULS 2 that’s introduced to the game in the Old King of Chess DLC. You meet her for the first time in the Chaos Dungeon, which is an area where you can always find her, it’s a part of her garden – Shatranj.
She has a significant role later in the game during DLC3, as she’s one of the Great Ones.
Appearances | BS2
Mabel is an important character in the BLACKSOULS series. She makes her official appearance in BS2 and can be encountered in the early part of the game.
Chaos Dungeon
Mabel appears for the first time in the Chaos Dungeon area which is accessed through a door you can find in the Library Dream’s Dungeon area. Once you pass through the door you’ll come to a unique place that’s a part of Mabel’s garden.
At first, you won’t see Mabel here, until you try to go through one of the doors. She’ll then pop up and introduce herself to you and immediately declare how Alice isn’t there, describing the chaotic nature of the new place you can dwell in.
If you don’t see Mabel in the Chaos Dungeon that’s because you need to reach the 1st layer of the Chaos Dungeon for her to appear.
When Mabel is in the Chaos Dunegon’s main area you can talk to her and she will have plenty of random dialogue you can exhaust. You can’t send her to the dungeon and you can’t kill her, she will just make fun of you whenever you do that.
Further down in the Chaos Dungeon, Mabel will accompany you through various different parts of it. The Chaos Dungeon is the best place in the game for farming valuable items and souls, the more you progress through it the harder it gets and the rewards get better.
While going through its layers, Mabel will wait for you at every checkpoint located right behind the fog of a boss you have to fight. You will be able to heal yourself, level up, buy colored souls, and even reinforce your weapons. She’s of significant help, and she’s also very cute.
Show Me The Night Sky
If you progress to the 5th layer or higher in the Chaos Dungeon, you will be eligible to get a special reward from Mabel.
The next time you talk to her in the Chaos Dungeon’s hub choose the option to force her to an intercourse, she will reject it like she always does, but after thinking for a little bit she will offer to show you the “night sky”.
This will lead to Mabel lifting her skirt and showing a lock on her panties, which you can unlock with a Master Key. Mabel will then say how you need a certain key that can fit into every keyhole, and how without it you can’t unlock the lock blocking her panties. If you have a Master Key you can unlock it, and she will be very confused about how and why you have that key.
You will respond with how it’s a Master Key, apparently crafted at the Elheim’s Academy of Magic. Mabel will say how there’s no such academy in this world, realizing that “that girl”, most likely Mary Sue, duplicated her key and added some background cover for it.
This interaction with Mabel will end and you will be able to ask her to show you the night sky whenever you want.
When the interaction ends Mabel will say that for the first time, she became a girl and aroused a man with her undergarments, adding how “this emotion called shame will be the death of me!”.
Fighting Mabel, Girl of Nihility
The Chaos Dungeon has the special Ashes Reingnited mode that is different from regular Chaos Dungeon progression through layers. Here you progress through specific boss fights and at the end of the Ashes Reignited, the last enemy you fight will be Mabel herself.
Mabel is a very strong enemy and she can summon a few powerful allies to help her out during certain moments in the fight. Mabel can summon the God of Sleep, the Lake Inhabiting God, and the Black Goat That Births Madness.
After defeating Mabel she will say how she’s grateful to you for fighting her, and will offer you a few rewards you can choose from.
Asking Mabel to show you the mystery will end up in her giving you her panties – Mystery of Night Sky, they are panties you can put on your head, they give HP&MP Regen+30% and Bonus Action Chance 50%.
Choosing souls will give you 50 Souls of the Outer One, and choosing nothing will give you a kiss from Mabel.
Defeating the Old King
After defeating the Old King in the Chaos Dungeon, Mabel will be quite surprised that you managed to beat him, saying how she wanted the one who drank her blood to play a more important role.
Mabel will then tell you how she can throw you into a world of nothingness in an instant if she wants to, but she’s just kidding. She will then go on to say how the Black Goat was her favorite, to remark how you’re now taking that place.
Since Grimm and Mabel are the very few who can freely come and go to gardens, she will offer you to go with her so the two of you can enjoy many gardens together. Mabel will say how you don’t need to worry about the Crawling One, as even he can’t see what Grimm is going to say right now. Grimm will automatically decline though.
Mabel will then reward you, and let you see the Cosmos. This will lead you into the Cosmos area where you will learn more about the Great Ones and how they can’t escape the fate of ruin, how they will get forgotten as time passes, and eventually they will lose their cults and become forgotten as Great Old Ones.
She will then go on to talk about gardens and how the Great Ones created them to either wield their authority or force their existence to be recognized. Mabel will say that gardens collide with gardens and that the final war between the Great Ones will break out, which will cause the souls of slaughtered creations to go back to the Cosmos which will trigger the Awakening of the Idiot, i.e. Azathoth, and that will erase everything that exists in the Cosmos and cast eternal nothingness.
In the world of nothingness, nothing can be experienced or created, you can’t go from it anywhere, and you can all alone “gaze into the infinity of nothingness”.
The scene will end and you will be back in the Chaos Dungeon with Mabel. She will ask you how was the view, boasting about her Eyes of Cosmos.
Mabel won’t force you to believe her, saying how even the White Queen, i.e. Node, didn’t believe her. However, Mabel will claim that is her own fault because she’s known to be quite shady.
She will then go back to the topic of the Awakening of the Idiot, and you will have the option to ask her why doesn’t she do something. Mabel will say that the strength of her intervention will be too big and that will awaken the Idiot.
So she says you should create your garden and head into the battle to stop the Great Ones before the final war begins.
You can reply with that you can’t create or with that you have to look for Alice, but whatever you say will be met with Mabel telling you how sooner or later the load of black souls will be too much to bear, and how soon after it will explode and shatter the vessel.
Mabel tells Grimm that moment will be his one chance to gather the dispersing souls and return them to their vessels, saying how she would aid you in that task.
Then, Mabel will say how it appears that she’s about to be found out, and she will finish the talk. Mabel will say how it should be easy for you to awaken from the dream, ending the conversation with “then I’ll go dream of the future and drown myself in alcohol. Fufufu…”.
Surprising Unis
If you choose the Unis route during DLC3, eventually you will get to the Dueling Grounds where you will be forced to defeat Leiden in a fight. Once Unis kills Leiden, both of you will continue further, but that’s when Unis is going to betray you, because she thinks of you as just a filthy male and a tool she could use to defeat Leiden.
She will have her unicorns around her, defending her while she’s having some sort of a mental breakdown, and then at one point one of the horses is going to talk, and that horse is Mabel.
All this will lead to the moment where Unis starts belittling Mabel too, calling her a whore and etc. Unis will give Mabel a countdown from 5 before she attacks her too, but as soon as Unis starts counting Mabel will bash her into one of the pillars and make her unconscious.
Surprising Leiden
In the DLC3 part of the game you can choose the Leiden route and that will eventually lead to you killing Unis at the Dueling Grounds area in Winterbell.
When you proceed further into the area with Leiden there will be a rain of blood and Leiden will be confused because she can’t find any of her little brothers, i.e. her saber-tooth relatives.
You two will then hear a sudden female laugh from the Cosmos and see Mabel sitting on top of a pillar giggling menacingly. She will jump from the pillar and Leiden will ask where are her little brothers, which will lead to Mabel revealing that they all burst a blood vessel in the sky.
Mabel will then conclude how it’s the end for Leiden because there is no crown in the end – the Lion and the Unicorn never get the crown, and they die in the end. If you don’t stop Leiden from charging into Mabel she will kill Leiden on the spot in an instant.
Entering Winterbell
When Mabel shows herself for the first time after you’re done dealing with Leiden and Unis, she will wait for you at the entrance to the castle.
From that point onwards she will be your guide through Winterbell and everything else you’re supposed to do next. She will tell you how madness hasn’t taken over it yet, but even the White Queen already left the country.
She will then go on to mention the Crown who you know under the name of Grand Guignol, and how it’s making good use of this land.
After Mabel goes through the door, you should follow her and then both of you will end up in Winterbell. She thinks this Garden is quite boring.
But then Mabel will smell some kind of aroma and she will instantly leave you to go towards it, without even thinking or saying anything else.
Drunk Mabel
Mabel is in one of the houses you can enter in Winterbell. That entire house is just one big room full of wine with it even flowing everywhere, and Mabel will be lying on the ground drunk out of her mind.
She will open herself up to you and will give you even some wine so you can drink with her.
Mabel will mention how it’s common to believe that Great Ones are purely rational and emotionless with their tainted black souls, but she will say how besides all that, she’s still trying hard to understand your feelings and not be awkward.
If you talk more to Mabel she will start rambling on how she’s the “oldestest” around, and how everyone keeps bullying her by calling her a fossil and a relic of the past. She will say how she’s poor because her only role is to prop “Alice up-up!”, and that because of that is why Alice gets to shine and be a heroine.
Mabel will then attempt to seduce you, but she will give up on it in the midst of trying. So you will have to force her to have intercourse with you, and this will initiate an NSFW scene while she’s lying on the ground.
Mabel will then say how the wine was magically altered to make her act so inappropriate, and then she will ask you how was the experience with her.
She will then confiscate the alcohol in an act of self-restraint because self-restraint is important, but also a good way to annoy the White Queen.
After the Visual Novel Part
When you finish with the mini visual novel that happens in the house where Alice goes when you spot her in Winterbell, Mabel will be right above you welcoming you back to the normal world.
She will then call the view that’s in front of you two fake. Mabel will say how the world lines have converged, and she will be surprised you’re still “back here” even after waking up from the dream.
Mabel will ask whether this is your longing for her Shatranj, or maybe the clock hand was turned back, but in the end, she will say how none of that is correct, rather your soul is intimately bound with Grand Guignol.
She will say how “that child” also wants to meet Grimm, and that The Crawling One probably didn’t predict that the “stage itself” would have an ego. Mabel will then walk off.
Argument with Little Sister Alice
When you reach Winterbell there will be certain houses you can enter and inside a house, you will be able to find a stuffed teddy bear that contains memories of a certain event that happened.
One cutscene will start with Alice, calling out for Mabel, addressing her as “Maymay’. Mabel will respond with how it’s nice to see her, by addressing her as her “little sister Alice”. Both of them will have a nice and friendly conversation until Alice asks Mabel for a request.
Alice will ask Mabel if she knows what happened to the “older sister Alice” who vanished some cycles ago, and what also happened to some other Great Ones who were invited but are now gone. Mabel will play dumb, and then Alice will call her out.
Alice will ask her if she was “in cahoots with the Crawling One from the beginning”, accusing Mabel of setting the bait in order to use them all and then slaughter them in the end. Mabel will then go on about how actors, i.e. Great Ones, get consumed by the roles they’re wearing. Allegedly that’s why they left, because the Crawling One turned the stage into his one-man show, so they don’t want a part of it.
Mabel will say how the Crawling One lost his mind in the role of Alice. So she will suggest to this current Alice she’s talking to that she should also leave, otherwise she will be completely lost in her supporting role. This Alice will say how she can’t run away because she’d leave daughter and mother, who are other Alices.
Mabel will tease her for falling in love with her “brother”. She will follow up with how love between a human and an Outer One “can only end in disaster”.
The cutscene ends with little sister Alice denying her feelings for her brother, so she starts insulting Mabel and it eventually ends with Mabel laughing, and saying how her words actually hurt.
Final Moments
When you reach The Throne area after traveling through the entirety of Winterbell that was available to you, Mabel will be waiting for you at the staircase towards the Grand Guignol.
She will be there supporting you, but considering she’s one of the Great Ones it’s not so easy to trust her, so Grimm will ask why is she even supporting him in the first place. She will then go on about how The Crawling One, White Queen, and even Mary Sue believe “that a story lives through repetition”.
Mabel calls this way of thinking boring and compares it to how it’s impossible to create purity in a tainted soul because eventually, you will break.
She connects that with why Grand Guignol needs Grimm because, with the ability to create and the ability to innovate, it will be possible to make some of the “most wonderful of Gardens together”.
Mabel will then realize she has been talking for too long and will go towards the stairway, telling you to hold her hand as she will guide you to Grand Guignol.
Once you clasp her hand, both of you will start going down the stairs together.
While going down the stairs you can talk to Mabel and there’s a lot of dialogues happening here that leave important details for understanding certain things related to the game’s story.
You and Mabel will reach a room with a pink teddy bear placed on a white table. The teddy bear is Liddell’s doll.
When you go further and leave Mabel behind, a metal fence will trap her inside.
She will then reveal her true goal, and how she deceived you, leaving you to Grand Guignol as a sacrifice.
After she reveals her goal she will be trapped there but you can reach out to her by interacting with the jail bars. You will be able to attempt to destroy the jail bars and she will make fun of you for it. Mabel is assuming you either want to kill or assault her, but she doesn’t mind as she enjoyed her role and playing love with you.
The room will start getting smaller and smaller, and you will have the option to save her.
She will say how it’s pointless because that room is an execution site made just for her.
Mabel will notice how you have a sad look on your face, and she will be confused by your emotions and the reason why you’re trying to break her out of the room.
She will then have a talk with you when she finally realizes your feelings are sincere. Mabel will say how she doesn’t even feel the taste of wine, but rather she just gets drunk on the atmosphere, it was all acting.
Mabell will continue with how the Outer Ones can’t understand humans, but she will admit she was able to understand you, admitting how she has a hot feeling in her chest right now, which she compares to human emotions.
She will tell you to not cry and close your eyes. And the next thing you’re going to see is just splattered blood.
And that’s how Mabel dies.
Personality
As a character, Mabel is very loose. She’s obsessed with indulging in sinful acts, such as drinking and other types of slothfulness. Mabel often refers to herself in conversation as “frail”, “poor”, “weak”, and etc.
I think she’s pretty funny and I enjoyed her storyline the most in the game. I like that she’s an alcoholic, and I think many can relate to her problems with addiction. It’s touching how much of an emotional impact Grimm has on Mabel, especially by the end of the DLC3.
Design
Mabel has a very distinguishable color palette – blue, red, and black which kinda makes a darker version of Alice in terms of appearance.
After all, she’s based on Mabel from Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland who’s used as a bad example in the book. Mabel has long dark blue hair with a red ribbon on the top of her head.
She’s always wearing a gothic Lolita dress with red borders that look puffy. Mabel has black thigh highs and very nice thighs. Her eyes are one of the best parts of her design – if you look closer you can even see the stars in them. They perfectly fit her pale shy face that blushes quite frequently.
