Witch Dorothy is a companion and a fairytale you can find in the first BLACKSOULS game. She is based on Dorothy Gale, who’s the protagonist of “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz” book, written by L. Frank Baum.
Dorothy is a powerful witch with a lot of knowledge of magic and the world she lives in.

Dorothy appears for the first time in the first BLACKSOULS game, relatively at the beginning of a playthrough.
Going to Dorothy
To get to Dorothy you will first have to go through the entire Forest of Abandoned to reach her house. Her house is in the northwest direction, the forest is full of annoying fairy enemies you have to either defeat or avoid.
When you get into Dorothy’s house you will notice Hansel and Gretel in the living room on the ground floor.
If you pick up the breadcrumbs that lead to the Witch’s House then you will unfortunately have to fight them because they will be in their demonbeast forms.
After you get through Hansel and Gretel, you can find Dorothy in her room upstairs.
Meeting Dorothy
If you killed Hansel and Gretel, Dorothy will ask who are you and what happened with the “brats” below. If you tell her you killed them she will say that it doesn’t matter, they were strangers in the first place and they also turned into demonbeasts. Dorothy doesn’t care either way.
You should have a Hansel&Gretel fairytale in your inventory and Dorothy will notice it and ask you to give it to her for a moment, she finds the book interesting. If you give Dorothy the book she will say how it looks just like a fairy tale for kids but it’s actually a “summoning sorcery book” that’s “complex enough” that even she wouldn’t be able to cast it. She says that the summoned will return to the book after being defeated, although she never heard of anyone summoning demonbeasts. According to her whoever is the summoner isn’t planning anything nice, she says that it may be one of the Demonic Princesses even.
You can tell Dorothy that you want to reach the Lost Empire, and when you do that she will draw attention to that you’re an undead because she thought your kind was already hunted down.
Dorothy says that you should forget about going to that “demonic castle” because you will only get caught and serve as a toy for Demonic Princesses. She’s not going to stop you but will give you a Master Key instead, which you can use to unlock the door that leads to the Warehouse at the building behind her house.
You can also buy sorceries from Dorothy – Sorcery [Soul Arrow], Sorcery [Soul Discharge], Sorcery [Soul Light], and Sorcery [Soul Radiance].
Training with Dorothy
If you tell Dorothy that you want to reach the Lost Empire, you can ask to become her apprentice. You can only become her apprentice if your magic stats aren’t seriously low.
When you become her apprentice and talk to her again you will be able to get a quest from Dorothy if you choose the training dialogue option. Dorothy will refer to you as “stupid apprentice, and she will start to call you stupid quite often.
She will give you a quest to kill certain demonbeasts – The Scarecrow, Tin Woodman, and Lion.
Dorothy doesn’t know where they are, saying that finding them is a part of your training but they may be “surprisingly close”. Dorothy will say “They are my…” before stopping herself from finishing the sentence, telling you to forget about it.
The Lion can be found at the Warehouse, the area you go to before you enter the Sewers.
The Scarecrow can be found in the Forest of Abandoned, he’s along with other scarecrows in an area near the Forest of Abandoned bonfire.
Tin Woodman can be found in Behemoth’s Ranch, he’s right at the entrance of the area in the first bottom area for horses.
When you kill all those demonbeasts you will be able to report what you did to Dorothy. You can ask who were those demonbeasts and she will say that they used to be her former pupils, but they became demonbeasts because of the fog.
The demonbeasts that were her pupils are from the Wizard of Oz series, they were Dorothy’s friends in there as well.
In the end, Dorothy will apologize for pushing her responsibility onto you, and she will sigh saying how this is getting weird. Dorothy will reward you in an interesting way worth seeing. During the “reward time” you will learn that Dorothy used to be a man quite some time ago, she is so powerful that she was even able to become a woman.
Dorothy will be flustered and her face bright red after the reward, she will tell you that with this the training is over, all while calling you stupid. At this point, you will get Dorothy as your companion, and you will be able to summon her in combat. She will also relocate to the Holy Forest.
Dorothy will tell you to not misunderstand because she only wants to make sure that you don’t embarrass her as her pupil, while also saying “It’s not like I’m worried about you or anything”.
In the Holy Forest
After you acquire Dorothy as your companion she will come to the Holy Forest. When you talk to her for the first time there she will say that it’s been a while since she has been there, saying that fairies are just as annoying.
You will still be able to buy sorceries from Dorothy – Sorcery [Soul Arrow], Sorcery [Soul Discharge], Sorcery [Soul Light], Sorcery [Soul Radiance], Sorcery [Blessing of Magic], Sorcery [Dispel], and Sorcery [Erase].
If you try to assault her, she will just call you stupid.
Hotel Poseidon
When you go to the love hotel Poseidon and if Dorothy is on the 100th level or higher, then you’ll be able to either make love or kill her.
Choosing the make love option will show you one of the best NSFW scenes in the entire game, at least in my opinion.
But if you choose the option to kill her, she’ll talk about herself and her past wishes for a little bit, about how she wanted to become the strongest witch out there, and then you will initiate a fight with her.
Chaos Witch Dorothy’s spells are powerful and she can deal a significant amount of damage. Also, she will have plenty of health for you to chip away at.
Killing her will give you the Wizard of Oz fairytale, and a couple of Black Souls.
Misc | BS1
Miscellaneous interactions with Dorothy.
Fighting Witch Dorothy
If you try to rape Dorothy, you will first have to beat her in a fight. She will attack you as Witch Dorothy, and she will also summon a Familiar to fight you too. She’s difficult to beat, as she’s a strong witch.
Dorothy’s Dog
On the western side of the Forest of Abandoned, there’s an area with a pond and a single grave surrounded by flowers. The grave belongs to a dog called Toto – Dorothy can be seen there mourning his death because that used to be her dog once.
She can appear there when she arrives in the Holy Forest.
When you talk to Dorothy she will tell you that you know this area well and that she’s visiting the grave of her dear friend, her faithful dog Toto.
Toto is Dorothy’s dog in the Wizard of Oz series as well, but it looks like he isn’t alive in the game.
Dorothy recalls the good old days when she traveled all around the world with her three pupils and her dog, saying “Even now if I close my eyes I can see all of it……”
All of a sudden, Dorothy will ask herself why can’t she remember Toto’s face anymore, wondering if the fog is getting to her as well – she can’t believe she forgot that of all things.
If you talk to her again she will ask if you could leave her alone for a bit, but if Dorothy is on the 99th level or higher you will have the option to “Hug her tight”, and with that, you will quietly embrace the witch and she will thank you.
At the grave, you can find Toto’s Ring, and interacting with the grave will display the following text “My dear dog, Toto, rest easy now.”
Dorothy and Glinda
When Dorothy comes to the Holy Forest she can also be found at the bonfire in the Forest of Sabbath area.
If you talk to Dorothy there she will be coughing (probably because of the burning forest’s smoke), saying how it’s been a while since she came there.
The forest has changed for the worse, it’s full of demonbeasts, and even the Black Trial is present.
Dorothy will mention how in the past the Sabbath was often held there, and she used to be a great sorcerer who was ordered to hunt witches, so the Sabbath was no exception. Dorothy killed many witches and demons so the Sabbath summoned an archdemon named Leonard to fight Dorothy.
The battle was “long, very, very long”, and it lasted until Dorothy made peace with a good witch Glinda during the fight.
Glidna also has the title of a “good witch” in the Wizard of Oz series.
Many hundreds of years passed since those events and Dorothy eventually became a witch and came there again. But it seems that the Sabbath was destroyed too, targeted by the Black Trial. Dorothy wonders what happened to Glinda, hoping she’s safe.
Eventually, you will come across the Nameless Demon as you explore the Forest of Sabbath area. If you summon Dorothy during the fight with him, she will recognize him as Leonard.
After the fight is over you can find a bookshelf with an apprenticeship diary that belonged to Glinda. The diary describes a mysterious encounter with very unusual demons during one of her summonings, she says the sky turned red, the world was breaking, and Leonard was fighting the demons with no chance of winning.
Glinda regrets her actions in the diary and desperately tries to apologize – only for the entry to end with “dorothy save me”.
At this point, you can summon Dorothy and she will understand the situation, apologizing to Glinda for not coming earlier. Dorothy is puzzled though because Glinda wrote about the red sky and the world breaking, but that’s not the case here. Dorothy is not sure about what exactly Glinda saw before dying, it’s a mystery even for her.
A Silly Cat Encounter
When you kill the Knight in Armor you will find out that he’s actually just a couple of cats in armor. These cats will then go to Dorothy’s house and they will stay there on the ground floor.
Talking to one of the cats will give you the option to summon Dorothy.
Dorothy will come and she will ask the cats who allowed them to settle in the house. The cat will say that they’re sorry and that they’re vagabonds while asking nicely if they could stay there until they find a new home. She won’t mind that and the cats will be very happy, one of the cats will say “What a lovely lady”.
That compliment will fluster Dorothy and she will laugh a little bit, she will ask you if she really looks like one. If you tell her that she does she will be very happy, laughing embarrassingly, but if you tell her she doesn’t look like a lady she will call you stupid again.
Playing in the Water
If Dorothy is alive in the Holy Forest and if her level is 30 or above, by going to the bottom part of the Holy Forest where that body of water is you will be able to see a scene where Dorothy is playing in the water.
Dorothy won’t notice you immediately and you will think about how she’s a man, so she’ll forgive you if she catches you sneaking a look at her.
While in water Dorothy will be complaining about her body, saying it’s bothersome while wondering why she chose this one again. The player inspects it thoroughly, saying “Despite claiming to be the world’s most beautiful woman, she doesn’t show much of her body normally”.
Dorothy will catch you right there and then and she will get really mad, calling you foolish again. She will turn bright red while screaming and splashing water at you, but the player asks her how is this not fine because it’s just a “male bonding”.
Dorothy will have an outrageous reaction to what the player said and she will shout that she’s a woman, commanding you to leave right this moment while calling you an idiot multiple times.
You then decide to leave and apologize to her later, because “If she gets any more upset, magic will come flying your way”.
Dorothy in the Basement
Dorothy in the Basement doesn’t object to her treatment there and will enjoy being locked up. She will address you as “lord” when talking to you.
Ending A
Dorothy is a character who appears in Ending A. She will be sitting at the table.
When you talk to Dorothy, she will tell you that she didn’t expect less of her pupil and that there’s nothing left for her to teach you anymore.
Dorothy will say that if you ask her nicely, she won’t mind staying with you.
Companion Ending
Dorothy is one of the characters in BLACKSOULS that has a Companion Ending.
More on that here.
Appearances | BS2
Dorothy makes an appearance in the second game too. Although the moment when you see her again is kinda sad and depressing, it’s also really kino, and such a nice throwback to her and the first game.
Mental Ward Diaries
Before finding Dorothy herself, when you’re in the Mental Ward, you can check the bookshelves and there you will learn about Dorothy and her backstory that takes part outside and inside the first game.
One of the first hints of her existence begins at the part of the Mental Ward where the bonfire is located. At the reception, one bookshelf talks about how every patient thinks they’re protagonists of certain fairy tales and fairy tale worlds.
“A rabbit in a waistcoat? A talking flower? None of that exists in reality. You’re just sick.”
“Your elder sister said she saw them? That only means all of you sisters are mad.”
Dorothy is also one of these patients who see themselves as protagonists of fairy tales. Another bookshelf talks more about her life.
It starts off with a girl who got hospitalized, whose house got blown by a tornado and both of her parents died too. The girl had a rough time at a hospital but one of the nurses/doctors gave her a fairy tale, the girl smiled and then she said her name is Dorothy.
Then the person who wrote this continues on talking about how Dorothy would play with her imaginary friends, “leading the lion, scarecrow, and tinman she defeated a witch, or some such.” After that, there’s another entry on Dorothy still being in her world, but this time she’s talking about her favorite disciple every day.
“’You must really love him,’ I teased, and she blushed and denied it.”
The last entry talks about Dorothy suddenly vanishing. There was no evidence of her escaping found.
“Did she really go into the world of fairy-tales, I wonder?”
Meeting Dorothy Again
Since the Mental Ward has a very confusing layout, going through a door can lead to a totally different place than the one the door seems to be leading to. Once you find yourself in this area on the image, don’t continue further, rather, just go back through the door from which you came.
When you do that, you will be at the Witch’s House area again, which is almost a complete replica of that area from the first game. There isn’t anything at the back of the house, so you can’t go to the Sewers, and therefore anywhere further from the house.
If you try to return from where you came from, you’ll just be in the Mental Ward again.
When you come into the house, Dorothy will be sitting in the living room, greeting you while also telling you that you’re late. She’s drinking and is telling you to come drink with her basically, but you will only be able to tell her you can’t come towards her, and she will ask you if you’ll be fine with living without her.
If you say you can’t live without her, she’ll tell you not to cry. But even though she gets closer to you, everything will become white and you’ll go to Witch’s House Ruins, while also getting her fairytale.
Fairy Tale [Wizard of Oz] – A house was blown by a tornado, and fell onto the earth. All that was inside turned into a soppy mess.
In front of you will be a chest with Toto’s Ring, and Sorcerer’s Staff. You can explore the area a little bit, but there’s nothing there you can see, not even Dorothy. Every time you return back to that house, it’ll be in a ruined state.
Hotel Poseidon Flashback
The last place where you can see Dorothy in the game is during the Hotel Poseidon Flashback.

Naked Dorothy
When Dorothy’s playing in the water, she’ll be naked.
Personality
Allegedly, Dorothy used to be an old man but somehow, she was able to magically change her gender. Despite that, she’s still one of the sweetest girls in BLACKSOULS. She will treat you like her apprentice and is very cute and caring, even if she tries to remain serious. Dorothy is a beautiful woman from who you can learn a lot.
She’s kinda tsundere.
Design
Dorothy has a long purple dress with an open shoulder area. The dress reaches her legs and covers the majority of her body while her chest is greatly exposed. To not be naked, her boobs are covered by a white chest piece which makes them look nice.
She has a big purple hat since she’s a witch after all. Her hair color is ginger, and she has plenty of it but it’s not too long. Her eyes are green and her facial expressions are mostly of a rather serious nature.
