Prayer Master is an important character in BLACKSOULS that will allow you to level up by giving it souls in exchange for levels. It takes the form of a black rabbit, and he’s one of the first characters you meet in the game.
The Prayer Master resides in the Holy Forest and you can talk to him whenever.

Appearances | BS1
Prayer Master makes his first appearance in the first BLACKSOULS game.
In the Holy Forest
If you go and talk to the Prayer Master you will have multiple options to choose in a dialogue with him.
You can either buy equipment – the roster expands the further you progress in the game, you can kill him, or you can level up your character – he’s the only way to get your level higher, so don’t kill him if you really don’t have to.
Fighting the Prayer Master
If you fight the Prayer Master and succeed in killing him so, you will no longer be able to level up your player.
When you choose the kill option you will have the option to choose whether you want to really do it or not, and if you choose to do it then embrace yourself for a tough fight.
Prayer Master has very strong attacks, like very strong, and he’s also full of health so killing him in the beginning phases of the game is very hard.
When you kill him, you will find the Traitorous Rabbit’s Ring. This ring will give you bonus action each turn.
Ending C
The Prayer Master is one of the few characters you will encounter during the C ending – when you pull the switch in the Kill area after filling all the fairytales, you will encounter him in the original version of the Holy Forest.
He will tell you more about Mary Sue, who the player knows as Leaf, and reveal that she’s in charge of basically everything going on in Elysium.
Also, the Prayer Master seems to have some regrets as he wronged the original Alice in some way and form. That’s because he separated the original Alice from Grimm, and then afterward basically became just one of many Mary Sue’s puppets.
The Prayer Master was in an eternal tea party with Grimm and Alice, but he disliked how close Grimm and Alice were getting. Mary Sue heard her wishes and decided to cause chaos and destruction because she had some weird fantasies.
Appearances | BS2
The Prayer Master appears throughout the second game, but only in dialogues and other references.
Descendants
Rabbit Knight Vernai is the Prayer Master’s offspring. He’s a rabbit knight hunting certain demonbeasts trying to avenge his father, and he’s also trying to erase his father’s sins.
Jabberwock seems to know who he is, as you can also summon him in a fight against her and they recognize each other.
Carpenter’s House
In the Mushroom Village, there’s a hidden area you can only access if you have 0 SEN. In the Backyard area, there will be a fog that leads to the Giant House, which is a giant house secret boss that’ll attack you.
Before the fight, you can see a sign which just says “BLACK RABBIT”, referencing the Prayer Master. When you defeat the Giant House, you will get the Soul of the Giant’s Home which you can give to Jack-in-the-Box in exchange for the Black Rabbit Ring.
Behind this house is the Prayer Master’s grave.
Lovecraft Cinema
In Queensland, while you’re on a date with Prickett you can go to Lovecraft’s Cinema to watch a movie. These movies are basically short cutscenes showing important moments in certain characters’ lives, and one of the characters who appears in one of the movies is the Prayer Master.
His movie is called “Tea Party for Three”.
The scene starts with a description of a peaceful life in Wonderland, where it was “nice to enjoy fancy teas” and where it was “fun to think up elaborate poems and jokes”, specifying how it was also nice to read “neverending fairy tales”.
Then it will show the 3 characters who like to have frequent tea parties – Alice, Black Rabbit, and the Newcomer whose name is not given.
It’s said that the Newcomer and the Black Rabbit couldn’t agree on anything, they always argued, but their “quarrels bloomed into a deep understanding and friendship”. After that, it’s specified that there are also dangerous beings in Wonderland such as the wicked Jabberwock and the tyrannical Red Queen.
But the Newcomer and Alice “fell in love and embraced each other”.
Then it will cut to a scene in the moonlit library where Alice asks the Newcomer if he will find her even if she disappeared somewhere far away, and the Newcomer will promise her that he will. The Black Rabbit saw everything from behind a shelf and then he got mad over the fact that the Newcomer “chose to keep our Alice all to himself”.
The Prayer Master prayed to God, saying how he has one wish. But it was already too late when he realized that the tea party would never happen again.
This movie will make Prickett cry.
This entire event is referenced in the Ending C of the first BLACKSOULS game.
Personality
The Prayer Master is quite mysterious and not a lot is known about him. Although you can get some lore implications by talking to him, sometimes he also may offer useful advice.
Design
While in his normal form, the Prayer Master takes the shape of a simple totally black rabbit, but if you decide to fight him, he’ll turn into a much more magical and mystical giant creature with wings.
