Saint Catherine is a companion and a fairytale in BLACKSOULS that’s based on Catherine of Alexandria – a real-life Christian saint and virgin. She will almost always be accompanied by two of her guards – Saint’s Guardian Ox and Saint’s Guardian Belior.
Catherine is quite warm as a person. In comparison to other characters in the series, she’s quite innocent and normal, but not always though.

Appearances | RHW
There’s an enemy you can fight in the later part of Red Hood’s Woods that looks like Saint Catherine in her demonbeast form. Her appearance in this game is strange, if that’s her at all, as she’s called the Maiden of Salvation instead of Saint Catherine.
She’s not the only character from BS1 who appears like this.
Appearances | BS1
Saint Catherine appears in the first BLACKSOULS game, in a bit later part of the playthrough.
Meeting Catherine
You can encounter Saint Catherine in the Holy Forest where she will be residing for some time with two of her guards – Ox and Belior. She will come after you progress a little bit in the game by killing bosses and etc.
Be careful not to progress too much in the game because you can miss her in the Holy Forest that way, although that won’t stop you from getting her as a companion.
When you talk to Catherine she will remark the comfort of the tranquility of this forest. She will introduce herself and say that she is visiting from Alexandria and will ask if you heard of her.
If you say you didn’t she will say “…I’m not known much in this country…?”, and then she will declare that she’s one of the fourteen saints of salvation. Catherine will say that she most certainly wants to share the teachings of God with you but now she’s in a hurry so she can’t really.
If you talk to her again she will talk about how so many people in this country suffer and how so many require immediate aid. She will say that she and her guards will be heading south soon to the town called Elixir, she hopes to find survivors and shelter them here.
Skeleton Maze
If you don’t see Catherine in the Holy Forest and quite some time has passed since you started your playthrough then she’s most likely at a certain secluded part of the Skeleton Maze area.
Catherine is unconscious and by her side are the Saint’s Guardians but now in their demonbeast forms. They are aggressive and will start going towards you as soon as they see you, you have to kill them for Catherine to wake up.
When you come back to wake Catherine up she will be confused but quickly remember that the turned townsfolk and soldiers attacked them, but before she finishes her sentence she will notice that both Ox and Belior are gone, and Catherine will be quite sad.
If you talk to Catherine again she will ask you if you could give her a moment, if you tell her it’s dangerous where she is, she will say that she’ll calm down and take refuge someplace safe. But you can also assault her, this time no one is there to protect her.
Saving Catherine
After saving Catherine from her demonbeast companions in the Skeleton Maze, if you don’t do anything bad to her, she will appear in the Cathedral at Graveyard Town Elixir, but only if you killed Patrasche first.
When you talk to Catherine she will thank you for saving her, remarking how due to her inexperience she lost the two people who were very important to her. Catherine says that before the phenomena occurring in this country even prayers seem meaningless, and then she will proceed to almost ask herself whether God is real or not but she stops herself before she can finish the sentence, asking you to forgive her and forget this.
Talking more to Catherine will reveal that it appears the church of this town worshipped a god named Mary Sue, although Catherine hasn’t heard of that god before. Catherine assumes Mary Sue is a great and kind being, but she thinks that god should’ve lent a helping hand to the people of this country.
Talk to her again and she will say that there are no survivors in Elixir, so she can only mourn their passing and pray. She will also start questioning why she even came to this place, Catherine will try to reminisce about her home country, Alexandria, but she won’t be able to remember the scenery of it.
At this point you will be able to buy miracles from Catherine – Miracle [Cure], Miracle [Protect], Miracle [Raise], and Miracle [Restore].
You can also assault Catherine without anyone interrupting you.
Summoning Jeanne
If Jeanne is in the Holy Forest you can summon her to the Cathedral in Catherine’s dialogue options.
When you summon Jeanne it will seem like she was expecting to be summoned straight into a fight, and not to a cathedral.
Jeanne will immediately recognize Catherine and she will even address her as “Lady Catherine”. Catherine also recognizes Jeanne, calling her Maiden of Orleans and asking why she came here.
Jeanne will say that she came to stop the cause of the fog spreading from the Lost Empire, she never expected to see Catherine come there too.
Catherine seems to not be feeling too well, and then she will start trembling. Jeanne will notice that Catherine’s soul is fading so she will ask you to feed her souls immediately otherwise Catherine will turn into a demonbeast.
You will save Catherine this way, but this will also lead to an NSFW scene.
Catherine will be well after the whole ordeal and she will ask Jeanne to forgive her as she needs to sleep for a bit. Jeanne will tell her to not worry and to rest, she’ll accompany Catherine back to the Holy Forest and now you will be able to always find her there.
Catherine in the Holy Forest
After you rescue Catherine from her demonbeast fate in the Cathedral, she will appear in the Holy Forest and there you should go talk to her.
Catherine will shily call out to you and say that she heard what happened from Jeanne, she nearly turned into a demonbeast but you saved her. She says that after losing Ox and Belior she gave in to despair, so only for a moment she abandoned her faith.
She’s grateful that you saved her.
Catherine wants to aid you with her power in battles, and from then on she will become your companion. You will be able to buy miracles from her once again too.
Hotel Poseidon
When you level up Catherine to the 100th level or higher, you can go to Hotel Poseidon and take her to one of the rooms to decide whether you want to make love to her or just kill her while nobody is watching. Talk to Pinocchio at the reception to initiate this.
Catherine is a beautiful woman, but if you like skinnier girls you can just kill her and get her fairytale.
Misc | BS1
Miscellaneous interactions with Catherine.
Fighting Saint Catherine and Saint’s Guardians
If you try to assault Saint Catherine then you will get into a fight with her and Saint’s Guardian Ox and Saint’s Guardian Belior. The two of them will protect Catherine and not let you hurt her.
Fighting Saint Catherine
If you kill the Demonic Princesses without fully saving Catherine, she will go insane and turn into a demonbeast, just like the majority of the companions do in the game after a certain level of progression.
The demonbeast version of Saint Catherine will start asking God where he exists, and then she will proceed to repeat that she can’t see anything, or hear, which makes sense considering she turned into a statue.
If you take a significant portion of Catherine’s health she will say that she now knows that in this world there is no God. And even if there is a God it won’t lend a helping hand to “us”, and it won’t grant salvation to humanity. So she questions even more asking why is it like that, she’s wondering why God abandoned “us”, while also saying “To our death we have never doubted you”. After this, she will truly go insane and just repeat the word “Why?”, ending the dialogue by screaming at God to show himself if he exists.
Playing in the Water
If Jeanne and Catherine are in the Holy Forest and if they’re level 30 or higher, you will be able to see them play together in the water at the beach part of the Holy Forest.
Catherine and Jeanne will be having fun in the water, Jeanne will come and splash Catherine and she will let out a scream, telling Jeanne that she’s too excited. Jeanne will laugh and ask Catherine to forgive her, saying that something like this is nice once in a while.
Catherine will remark how both of them went through a lot recently, but Jeanne is glad that she met Catherine. She calls it a divine blessing, saying that it’s all thanks to you (the player). Although, they still don’t know that you’re watching them.
Catherine will say that you saved her too, continuing on with how it would be nice if both of them could be of help to you.
And then, all of a sudden Catherine will come towards Jeanne and splash her with water, getting her revenge.
They will start quarreling and you will think about how it’s nice that you got to witness the charming side of the two, so you decide to leave them alone and go back.
But then a dry branch that was under your foot swiftly puts an end to that plan. This will make them realize you were watching them the entire time and they will scream in disbelief, so you quickly retreat.
They will continue screaming, and Jeanne will ask Catherine if you really are a lecher. Catherine is very embarrassed that you saw her naked.
Catherine Kills Herself
If you commit 10 sins or more, Catherine will get quite upset.
When you go away from the Holy Forest and come back to it, go to the basement, i.e. the Path to Lower Layer area and you will see right in front of the doors of the Basement, Catherine’s corpse because she committed suicide.
It looks like she bashed her head into the wall, which is quite brutal.
Catherine in the Basement
Catherine in the Basement is very timid and she doesn’t talk much.
When you come up to talk to her she will just be able to mutter “O God……”
Ending A
Catherine is a character who appears in Ending A. She will be sitting at the table, next to Jeanne.
When you talk to Catherine, she will say that meeting you must’ve been God’s guidance, or maybe it was your two’s fate. She will then stutter for a bit and say that that was embarrassing, asking you to forget it.
Companion Ending
Catherine is one of the characters in BLACKSOULS that has a Companion Ending.
More on that here.
Appearances | BS2
Catherine also makes an appearance in the second BS game. Although when you encounter her she may look different than how she used to in the first game.
St. Catherine Statue
One of the places in the game where you can encounter St. Catherine is inside Ox Ward University. When you go upstairs and then to the left, there’ll be a statue of St. Catherine that you can pray to.
Praying to her statue will give you the Ring of Vanity, Miracle [Cure], Miracle [Erase], and behind the statue, you can get the Miracle Ring.
If you pray to her again, you will feel like she smiled at you. Make sure to have at least 100 SEN if you want to see this interaction.
Summon Catherine
After exploring Ox Ward University, and going through the secret door, you’ll reach the Dean’s Room area where there you can fight the Dean if you go through the fog.
In front of the fog, there’ll be a fairytale you can summon – the dream spirit of Our Lady Catherine. She will take the form of a statue, and not of her original design from the first game.
You can summon her only if you prayed to her statue beforehand.
She will have her moments during the fight where she’ll speak about religion-related stuff. Finishing the fight will give you her fairytale, or Folk Tale if you want to be more specific.
Hotel Poseidon Flashback
Catherine is one of the characters that appears during the Hotel Poseidon Flashback.

Personality
Catherine has a sweet and tender personality. She’s very sad when both of her companions die and it’s clear that she’s severely stressed out. Catherine is a saint after all, and she acts like it. She’s too naive for Elysium, but that makes her especially sweet.
Design
Catherine’s clothing in BLACKSOULS is very simple and sweet. She’s wearing saint-like white robes that cover her entire body, along with a head cover that’s placed over her beautiful purple hair.
Her eyes are red and warm, she also wears a cross around her neck. Under her robes, she has especially beautiful breasts, which radiate light when uncovered (not literally though).
