Holy Knight Jeanne is a character in BLACKSOULS. In the first game, she’s your companion and a fairytale, and also one of the first characters you meet in the game.
She’s based on a real-life important person from history – Joan of Arc, a French revolutionist, and martyr, who was just a regular girl who allegedly got guidance from God to lead an army to save France from getting taken over by England during the Hundred Years’ War.

Jeanne appears for the first time in the prologue of the game.
Meeting Jeanne
When the prologue starts, you will find yourself locked inside a prison cell in the Dungeon, located at Fort Ivern. Executioner Pigs are outside and they are not letting you go, but then after a bit of waiting you will see a woman in knight armor coming to your rescue.
She will talk to you and there you will be able to see that her name is Holy Knight Jeanne – she says that you’re a strange undead and that there’s still the light of life in your eyes. Jeanne will tell you to move your feet and bring the light to this world if you hear the voice of God.
And then she will leave.
When you get out of the Dungeon, you will notice Jeanne in front of the entrance. She will be surprised, wondering if this is divine guidance as well.
She will finally then introduce herself as Jeanne d’Arc, while also saying that she hails from Orleans.
Jeanne will tell you that the world is in turmoil and that it’s affected by the fog. The fog spreads from the castle of the Lost Empire, and it’s turning humans into demonbeasts. She wonders what happened in this rich and peaceful country, she’s wondering what causes the fog to spread – that’s why she even came to the Lost Empire.
Jeanne will tell you to not worry though, because protecting you will be her priority. She will say that there’s a land of the fairies, outside the castle town, and she wants to escort you there.
You and Jeanne will then go through Fort Ivern together. She will stop at one point, saying how the wind is eerie there. Jeanne then starts talking about how countless people are suffering because of demonbeasts, and she says that it’s her duty to save them.
Jeanne will then say that she wants you to help in saving the people, she’s sure that an undead can become a hero as well. You will then be able to respond.
If you tell Jeanne that you promise to help, she will be thankful, saying how she’s sure God is watching over you too. If you just keep silent though, Jeanne will ask you to forgive her, saying how it might’ve been too early to ask such a question.
You two will want to start going, but then, all of a sudden, Drake Helkaiser will fly in as you two try to go further down the fort. He is a giant dragon, and he will burn Jeanne to death right in front of you.
Jeanne will be screaming (because she’s getting burnt alive), and she will wonder why is this happening to her even there. She’s very reluctant to die, but nonetheless, she gets burnt to death.
And that’s where you part ways with Jeanne, at least for now.
Reviving Jeanne
Since Jeanne is dead right as the game starts, if you go back to Fort Ivern at the exact spot where the prologue ends, you will see Jeanne’s Ashes on the ground that you should pick up if you want her fairytale or her to be your companion.
Reviving her is important for Endings A and C. You can revive Jeanne only if you haven’t defeated the four Demonic Princesses.
To revive her you need to bring her ashes to Shaman Keto, along with the Kraken Tentacle.
You can obtain the Kraken Tentacle by defeating the first boss in the Sea of Trash – Trashlord Kraken. Shaman Keto is in the Skeleton Maze, he can be found in one of the rooms in there.
When you bring all of those things to Keto and initiate the reviving ritual, he will start reviving Jeanne at the cauldron in the middle of the room.
Jeanne will faintly come back to existence, she will be muttering that she’s Jeanne d’Arc of Orleans, and that she’s not a witch. Keto will then say that this isn’t good, as it looks like she doesn’t have enough souls, and that she’ll turn like that.
He will then tell you to feed her your souls, and that he did all that he could.
Jeanne will be in the cauldron thing, and when you interact with her she will ask who you are.
You will have the option to either feed her souls or turn her into your sex slave.
If you choose to turn her into your sex slave, you will fuck her and send her to the Basement.
And if you choose to feed Jeanne souls, you will fuck her and save her from dying.
When you’re done with having sex, Jeanne will be coughing and you will be able to ask her if she’s alright, or you can call her by name.
If you ask her if she’s alright, she will say that she is, more or less.
And if you call her by name, she will confirm that she’s Jeanne.
Jeanne will say that for a long time she was in a dark depth of despair, little by little her existence was fading. She will say that you saved her, and she then asks you for your name. When you tell her your name, she will want to say that you’re surely God’s something (perhaps a soldier?) before interrupting herself by saying that she should stop making convenient interpretations.
Jeanne will thank you, saying how it was very scary being lost and alone.
Jeanne will hug you tightly, and you will remark how her body is shivering “as if she’s afraid to lose this contact”, she says that she was taught that undead and humans can’t get along under any circumstances. She then says that your body is very warm, and that she will give her loyalty to you.
Jeanne then says “Jeanne d’Arc of Orleans…. Will serve as your sword and shield. Please use me… in whatever way you deem right. Let’s save this world together.”, and that’s when you will get her as your companion.
You will be able to find Jeanne in the Holy Forest.
In the Holy Forest
After saving Jeanne, she will be in the Holy Forest.
If you talk to her there for the first time, she will say that the Holy Forest is the place she first came to in this country – she addresses the Holy Forest as the land of fairies.
Jeanne says that only those who lost their destination can reach the Holy Forest, she wonders if she’s like that too.
She will say that she doesn’t feel like she saw Leaf when she came to the Holy Forest for the first time, she wonders if Leaf was hiding.
You can feed Jeanne souls. If you try to rape her, she will say: “Th-that’s… we can’t……”
Hotel Poseidon
When you get Jeanne to the 100th level or higher you will be able to be alone in a room with her at Hotel Poseidon. Talk to Pinocchio and then choose Jeanne in the interface that appears, and then you will be with her.
If you don’t want to have a nice time with her though, you can just decide to kill her right on the spot without a fight and get her fairytale.
Misc | BS1
Miscellaneous interactions with Jeanne.
Jeanne and Catherine
Since both Jeanne and Catherine are holy women they’re acquainted and know of each other.
They hold each other in high regard and that’s why you will get the option to summon Jeanne once Catherine becomes depressed and settles in the Cathedral – the one in the Graveyard Town Elixir.
She will only settle there if Patrasche is dead, and therefore the Cathedral is empty.
Once Jeanne is summoned, Catherine will start feeling unwell and Jeanne will take her to the Holy Forest after you participate in Catherine’s “rescue”.
When you and Jeanne save Catherine, if you talk to Jeanne in the Holy Forest, she will tell you that Catherine awakened not long ago, but she’s asking you not to be discourteous if you go to greet her. She says that Catherine is of noble lineage and that she’s a pure saint, so that’s why you should take responsibility, emphasizing that you should take responsibility “in many ways”.
Playing in the Water
When you have Jeanne and Catherine on the 30th level or higher, you will be able to spot them playing in the lake. They will be in the southern part of the Holy Forest, and you can activate the scene by going there.
The scene starts with Jeanne splashing Catherine with water. Catherine will call Jeanne too excited, so she will mischievously apologize to her, saying how occasionally something like this is quite nice.
Catherine agrees, saying how both of them went through quite a lot recently.
Jeanne will then go on to talk about how she’s glad to meet her Catherine, and when she’s about to say that it’s all a divine blessing, she will interrupt herself and say how it’s actually all thanks to you. Catherine will say that you saved her as well and that it would be nice if they too could be helpful to you.
Catherine will then splash water at Jeanne, getting her revenge for what Jeanne did to her – and the two of them will continue quarreling in water, while you’ll think how it’s nice to see a charming side of the two.
You then decide to leave, but you step on a dry branch under your feet.
The girls will scream as they now realize you have been peeping at them.
Jeanne and Catherine are shocked, Jeanne will ask Catherine if you really are a lecher.
Demonbeast Jeanne
Since Jeanne is a holy woman, if you have 10 sins or more and go talk to her, she will no longer want to be your companion and will go away from the Holy Forest.
That will result in her turning into a demonbeast – you will encounter her in that form while exploring the Lost Empire when searching for Cinderella’s lair. Poor Jeanne, she’s so sweet but got very rough treatment throughout the whole game.
In the Basement
Jeanne in the Basement is quite submissive.
Ending A
Jeanne is a character who appears in Ending A. She will be sitting at the table, next to Catherine.
When you talk to Jeanne, she will tell you that you truly became the light of hope and that her joy knows no bounds.
Jeanne will say that she’ll make sure for you to be known in her country as a hero for generations to come.
Companion Ending
Jeanne is one of the characters in BLACKSOULS that has a Companion Ending.
More on that here.
Appearances | BS2
Jeanne makes minor appearances in BLACKSOULS 2.
Jeanne’s Belongings
You can find Jeanne’s fairytale in the Fuming Forest. Her fairytale will be in a chest you can get to by trying to go behind the lava waterfall – in the chest you will also find the Holy Knight’s Shield.
The location of this chest is quite ironic, considering she got burned in real life and BS1.
Hotel Poseidon Flashback
Jeanne is one of the characters who makes an appearance during the Hotel Poseidon Flashback.

Naked Jeanne

Personality
Jeanne is a very moral person. She’s a holy figure in real life and she maintains that position in the game as well. Sinning repulses her and if you sin too much in the game she will even refuse to be your companion.
She’s thankful and very polite. She’s one of the purest characters in the game, and one of the nicest as well. I like her a lot because she’s really sweet and brave, considering how dark and cruel Elysium is.
Design
Jeanne of Arc in BLACKSOULS doesn’t follow the traditional depiction of Joan of Arc, which is of a girl with dark hair either brown or black, which is in most cases short. She has long blonde hair and blue eyes and is genuinely the sweetest person in the game look-wise too.
