When you start a new game in BLACKSOULS there’s a prologue that will introduce you to the general feeling of the game and what you should be doing and how.
This post covers the prologue of the first BLACKSOULS game.
The prologue is quite short and skipping it isn’t recommended.
Talking to Alice
As soon as you start a new game you will be greeted by Alice. You will be sitting in a library in the form of what looks like a lingering soul, and Alice will be right across you sitting at the same table. She has a book open in front of her and a lit-up lantern next to her.
Alice will immediately congratulate you, saying how you were chosen to be the protagonist of this story. She will proceed to introduce herself, saying that her name is Alice, and then asking if she could hear your name.
You will then get the option to write your name in and after that Alice will compliment your name, saying how she thinks it’s quite lovely.
After that, you will be required to select your background, giving you to choose one of the following three options:
- Knight – High Attack and Defense. Knows techniques for lowering the enemy’s attack and defense.
- Thief – High Speed. Knows a technique for slaying foes in a single blow. Begins with 1000 bonus Souls.
- Sorcerer – High Magic and Resistance. Knows Soul Arrow from the start.
Besides different stats, the classes also have different appearances. But you can always change the appearance in the Room of Reminiscence.
Alice will then give you the option to choose one of the four presents that will help you in the beginning of the game:
- Master Key
- Life Ring
- Candy
- Divine Blessing
After choosing that, Alice will ask you if you’re interested in carnal acts (i.e. H scenes, aka sex).
You will then be done with choosing things and Alice will say “…….It appears it’s time to raise the curtain. In other words…….to begin the story.”
Alice will tell you that you’re the main character, asking you not to lose your heart to the last. She will then say that her part is over, ending the conversation with “Let’s meet again.” before exploding.
You will then get the option to skip the prologue.
If you skip it you will spawn in the Holy Forest.
Escaping Jail
When the prologue officially starts you will be locked inside of a jail cell. You won’t be able to escape, there are Executioner Pig enemies outside keeping you captive.
Soon enough, an unfamiliar woman knight will come into the place where you’re held captive and she will kill the Executioner Pigs with ease and then come toward you.
She will say that you’re a strange undead, remarking how there’s still the light of life in your eyes.
The mysterious woman will say that if you hear the voice of God, move your feet and bring the light to this world. She will leave after saying that, and you will be left alone again.
She doesn’t introduce herself to you but from the dialogue window, you can see that she’s called the Holy Knight Jeanne.
The Executioner Pig enemy that was close to your cell will be lying dead right next to it and you will be able to pick up the Dungeon Key from him that unlocks the door of your cell. The other cells are locked as well, and there’s another sleeping Executioner Pig enemy that Jeanne didn’t kill for some reason.
After that, the only thing you will be able to do is escape the dungeon that you woke up in.
Together with Jeanne
After you leave the Dungeon you will see that you’re at Fort Ivern, and right in front of the exit Jeanne will be there, and she will notice that you came out of the cell.
She will be surprised, asking you if this is divine guidance too, and then she will finally introduce herself. She will say that her name is Jeanne d’Arc and that she hails from Orleans.
Jeanne will tell you that the world is in turmoil, it’s affected by the fog spreading from the castle of the Lost Empire and it’s turning humans into demonbeasts. Jeanne came to investigate what happened because this country used to be rich and peaceful, she’s wondering what caused the fog to spread.
Jeanne will tell you to not worry because she will be protecting you from now on. She says that there’s a land of the fairies below Fort Ivern and outside the castle town and that she’ll escort you there.
Jeanne will then join your party and you will have to escape Fort Ivern.
It’s quite easy to navigate through Fort Ivern, if go the wrong way Jeanne will say that that way leads to the castle of the Lost Empire, to her “fated land”, and that it’s too early to go there. She will stop you from going that way saying how you should head to the lands of the fairies instead.
When you go down the only available path, Jeanne will stop for a second saying how the wind feels eerie. She will start talking about how countless people suffer because of demonbeasts and that saving them is her duty.
Jeanne will say that that’s the reason she wants you to lend your strength to help in this cause because she’s sure even an undead can become a hero. You will have the option to respond to her offer.
After that, you two will get going again but before you’re able to leave, a giant purple dragon will appear and he will burn Jeanne to death. She will die in front of you and you will then get into a fight with Drake Helkaiser.
Drake Helkaiser will most likely kill you but defeating him is possible by avoiding his attacks. Doing that will get you the Drake Sword, which is quite good, but you will still appear in the Holy Forest just as if you lost to him.
And that’s where the prologue ends.
