Match Seller Elma

Match Seller Elma is a companion and a fairytale in the first BLACKSOULS game. Elma is a young girl who sells Matches in Rotten Burg – she is based on an unnamed girl who’s the main character of “The Little Match Girl”, a short story written by Hans Christian Andersen.

She’s a shy character with a timid nature and some family issues. Her mother comes home during the night while her father is somewhere hunting for treasure.

Elma appears for the first time in the first BLACKSOULS game.

Going to Elma

Elma’s Match Shop is located in Rotten Burg, its exact location is under the Rotten Burg bonfire.

You will need a Master Key to be able to enter her shop.

Meeting Elma

When you come into Elma’s Match Shop she will be a little bit surprised. If you approach Elma and come to talk to her she will say that she thought one of those women from outside came in.

Elma will then proceed to introduce herself to you and you will give her your name as well. She will tell you that she’s selling Matches and that if you need them you should buy some.

Match is a consumable item of mysterious origin that restores 3000 HP and MP, she’s selling 1 for 1000 souls.

You can buy Match from her but you can also ask her more about her parents, and you can also assault her.

If you ask her more about her parents Elma will tell you that her mother works at night and then comes back. Her father and mother fought so her father left – Elma’s father is a merchant, and she says that she liked his stories about trade very much.

Elma’s father is searching for treasure somewhere now, and she thinks it would be nice if he found it.

Forbidden Literature

On one of the bookshelves in Elma’s store, there’s a book you can read.

The contents of the book are questionable:

“Aa-aaah…! S-stooop……! Tortoise, you fiend! Where do you think you’re touching…!”

“Ha-ha-ha! What was that just now……? As expected of a hare, you’re a quickshot!”

Elma will stop you from reading further telling you to get away, she will tell you to not look at that stuff without asking for permission first.

Elma got angry because you peeked into one of her interests.

Elma’s Mom Attacks

Elma has some notable family issues. Both of her parents are kinda absent from her life and it seems like she spends most of her days alone.

If you kill Knight in Armor who’s just right before the Gate of the Lost Empire bonfire, and go back to Elma’s Match Shop, you will notice that her mother, who’s in the form of some kind of a beast (she’s a Lamia), is trying to persuade Elma to come with her because Cinderella invited her to some kind of ball.

If you don’t stop Elma’s mother from reaching Elma, she will quite literally murder her on the spot and Elma’s blood will be all that’s left, and she will drop her fairytale – Little Match Girl.

It will happen instantly, so you should hurry up before she reaches Elma.

Saving Elma

If you kill her mother, there are multiple things that can happen.

In any case, after Elma’s mother is killed by you, Elma will run away because she’s frightened by the sight of her dead mother – if you haven’t killed the Pied Piper of Elixir yet she will run into the Sewers and end up dead in the part where he’s located.

You can ask the Pied Piper of Elixir if he has seen a girl, and he will say that he has seen one, and then he will proceed to describe her as a “lost little child in a green hat”.

He will then continue on by saying that she, unfortunately, stepped into their “house”, and that Elma cried and screamed so much while she was getting murdered.

The Pied Piper of Elixir remarks “It’s sin for the parents to leave a child alone”.

But if the Pied Piper of Elixir is dead along with the Knight in Armor, Elma will go to the Holy Forest and she’ll be safe there.

This is where you can comfort her and get her as your companion.

Elma in the Holy Forest

You can find Elma in the eastern part of the Holy Forest, she will be in the corner of the area next to a tree, looking into the forest with eyes full of sadness.

If you talk to Elma she will tell you her mother and father are gone, and now she’s totally alone. You will have the option to either tell her she isn’t alone, or to hug her tight.

After you do that Elma will call your name and she will cling to you, crying while holding onto you for a while.

When you talk to Elma after that she will excuse herself, and then say that you were very kind and helpful, so for that reason Elma wants to thank you. She will cling onto you even stronger now not letting go of you even though you try to step back because you didn’t expect this kind of reaction from her.

An NSFW scene will then start here.

She did all of this because Leaf taught her about it, she taught her that’s a way to make men happy.

After everything ends Elma will tell you that she wants to go with you, but you’re not too pleased with having such a fragile girl go on dangerous adventures with you. Elma will complain about that and say that she wants to be useful to you.

She will then go on to mention how you know Sympathetic Summoning sorcery, so if you’re in trouble Elma wants you to call her.

Elma wonders if she’d be able to meet her father with Sympathetic Summoning as well.

After this, you will be able to have Elma as your companion and buy her Matches again.

When you buy Matches from Elma and if you have her on 99th level or higher, after leaving her shop she will say “Misses fairies here help Elma with materials for Match…… So Elma Can make a whole lot…hihihi.”

Elma and Goose

After progressing further in the game, and if both Elma and Goose are safe in the Holy Forest, rescued as your companions, a funny interaction between the two of them can happen at Goose’s stand.

Goose will be giving a simple math problem to Elma to see if she can solve it in her head.

“There are 32 people, each of them has 7200 Souls. What’s the total amount of Souls?”

Elma will think for a bit but will say that the answer is 230400.

Goose will say that the answer is correct, and she will tell Elma that she’s amazing (the answer is correct).

Then they will notice that you’re also there, Goose will tell you that she’s teaching Elma “the art of mental arithmetic”, saying that she’ll be a genius merchant someday.

Elma will butt in and say that when she grows up she will have a store just like “Miss Goose”.

Hotel Poseidon

When you take Elma to the 100th level you will be able to spend a night with her in Hotel Poseidon. Talk to Pinocchio at the reception and initiate the stay if you want some alone time with her.

She’s weak, so you can instantly kill her if you want her fairytale.

Miscellaneous interactions with Elma.

Demonbeast Elma

If you kill the four Demonic Princesses, and if Elma is still in the store, she will eventually turn into a demonbeast, and you’ll eventually have to fight her – she looks rather scary in that form.

She will set everything on fire and become a firey beast herself that can be tough to defeat. Elma is quite furious in this form, which is quite uncharacteristic for her considering she used to be a shy young girl.

Playing in the Water

If Elma is on the 30th level or higher, in the southern part of the Holy Forest, you can get a scene where she’s bathing in the lake.

You will approach the lake and find Elma bathing in the lake, she will shyly ask if you want to bathe with her. Elma doesn’t mind your gaze, so you undress and enter the water to wash yourself, all while specifying how you have no ulterior motives.

Elma will be gazing at you, and she will mention how you have a nice body and then poke you. She will poke and pat your naked skin, and you will wonder why this girl is talking like some old man.

She will tell you that you have amazing muscles, calling you much more amazing than father.

Then you will remark, “You just imagined something rather unpleasant. Feeling chilly, you properly wash yourself and quickly get up to leave”, and Elma will tell you to wait because she’s coming too.

Elma’s Dad Comes

Elma’s dad is alive, and you can find him in the game.

He will come to the Holy Forest if Elma is still alive.

He’s actually the Nameless Trader who can be found in Gothel’s Tower and if you buy the Storm Ruler from him for 50000 souls and don’t kill him, he will come to the Holy Forest and be in the area where Elma is.

You can talk to him and buy some useful items from him, but other than that he’s not too useful.

When he comes to the Holy Forest, the Nameless Trader will recognize you and tell you that he’s grateful for what you’ve done. He will be staying in the Holy Forest until the time arrives for him to look for the next sale, so he’s looking forward to doing business with you until then.

If you talk to him again he will ask what’s your relationship with Elma, the girl by the tree. There are multiple things you can tell him, but either way, he will not mind you dating his daughter. He’s just glad that Elma isn’t in danger, he will ask you to look after her.

Elma in the Dungeon

Elma in the Basement will address you as “father”. She will welcome you back when you enter her cell.

Ending A

Elma is a character who appears in Ending A. She will be sitting at the table, next to Elisabeth.

When you talk to Elma, she will compliment you on your good work. She will say that she will become your bride once she grows up a bit more, asking if that’s good. If you say “No problem”, she will be happy and say that she loves you, and if you say “No good”, she will just be left confused.

Companion Ending

Elma is one of the characters in BLACKSOULS that has a Companion Ending.

Elma also makes an appearance in the second game, but it’s not anything major.

Elma’s Fairytale

Elma is one of the fairytales you can find in BLACKSOULS 2. To do that you will have to go to a little bit remote part of Lutwidge Town, which’s entrance is north of the Kidnapper enemy.

At the end of the road, there will be a big house. If your SEN is 0 you will see Elma’s fairytale on the ground and the house will be on fire.

Hotel Poseidon Flashback

The last place where you can see Elma in the game is during the Hotel Poseidon Flashback.

Personality

Elma is very shy and she’s quite easily frightened. Her family issues also probably contribute to her cute reservedness. Elma is undoubtedly one of the cutest characters – everything she does is so cute, and that includes her behavior in H scenes.

She seems to have an interest in an interesting kind of literature, which you can check out at her Match Shop. Even though Elma is a young girl, and even though she seems to be shy and scared easily, there’s a darker side to her that involves the way she makes her Matches.

Design

Elma’s clothing is quite simple and stylish. She has a plain dark green cloak with a black bowtie and a dark green hat which are the most iconic parts of her design. Her hair is light brown and short, and body-wise she’s quite small.

Her facial expressions are usually shy and very cute as a result of that. She has two cute red cheeks that are really noticeable.
