Grand Guignol has a major appearance in DLC3 but you may have met it before in the main game without even knowing.
Doll Alice
Doll Alice, or just Alice 02-D, is an NPC you can find in the Library located inside Ox Ward University. Doll Alice is supposed to represent Alice and how she looks although she’s aesthetically in terms of design a little bit different than the original Alice.
For Doll Alice to appear in the first place you have to kill Vagina Dentata who’s in the same room.
Doll Alice is the current representation of Grand Guignol in this timeline. Winterbell takes place in the past before Node gave her garden to Prickett.
Doll Alice will only talk if you finish Ending G, if you interact with her before getting Ending G while you have 0 SEN then it will just say “Liddell’s Doll” whenever you interact with it.
Meeting Doll Alice
When you talk to Doll Alice for the first time she will recognize you immediately as her master. She will say that you’ve been registered as her master, and then she will go on to explain that she is model Alice 0-2D, so she will ask you to use her designated name, Doll.
Doll Alice will say that she can’t assist you in your daily life because she lacks physical autonomy. So she only exists, at least according to her, to be admired, to cultivate your better understanding of art, and to nurture your creativity. Doll Alice will also take this opportunity to tell you she has mock female genitalia.
Talking to Doll Alice
You can talk to Doll Alice if you want to, and you should because she has important things to say.
If you talk to Doll Alice she will ask you if you want to stop the gears. If you say “yes” then she will tell you to visit Winterbell because that’s where her master Alice 01, the one who created her, is waiting for you.
After Visiting Winterbell
After you visit Winterball and go back to Doll Alice she will ask you if you remember that far in the past you and she came to perceive each other.
She will say:
“I
This doll
brought you into being”
Doll Alice will then continue about how from that moment you and her were bound by a black thread, and how even meeting her like this must’ve been inevitable.
Doll Alice will make a brief pause and then address you by your name while also calling you master, telling you “All of Alice in Wonderland is fake. Please, track down what is ‘real’. Only the puppet standing on the stage in the shape of the dear little girl you should be with at the end.”.
After this dialogue is over you can talk some more to her and then she will go on to say how she can’t create anything without a blueprint, so she finds you, who can create things from scratch, “to be most admirable”.
Doll Alice will then follow up with how you look rather delicious today, asking if she may have a taste. But then she will laugh a little bit, saying how it is just a joke.
Kill Doll Alice
You have the option to kill Doll Alice.
When you choose the option to kill Doll Alice she will say that she accepts all of you, while addressing you as master.
You will get a Tainted Black Soul when you kill her, and also lose 30 SEN.
If you go to Winterbell and then decide to kill her, she will start repeating “I love you.” – her last words are “I” before she disappears.
Playwright Lorde
Grand Guignol makes its first appearance when you reach the Remote Jail cell area after defeating Florence. You will hear about it in a conversation with Playwright Lorde, who claims to be the creator of Grand Guignol, and he’s very bitter that his “child” refuses to see him or have anything with him.
Andre de Lorde, the real-life person on who Lorde is based, wrote a lot of plays for the Grand Guignol theatre, so he somehow chased after the Grand Guignol after certain Great Ones “took it away from him”.
The Fight with Grand Guignol
After you finish the mini visual novel section of the game in Winterbell, you will be able to finally reach Grand Guignol and fight him. Mabel will tell you where to go, and when you come into the throne room she will be there waiting for you to clasp her hand.
Once you clasp her hand she will lead you downstairs to the place where Grand Guignol is supposedly located. Mabel will betray you and basically offer you as a sacrifice to Grand Guignol, and then you’re all on your own.
If you saved Florence, Gerda, and Carnacki, you can have them help you in your battle by summoning them.
When you go through the fog, you will appear in a replica of the Dungeon, in a cell where the Dormouse would be if you decided to send her to the dungeon. Then you will go to Node’s library because you don’t have any other place to go, and then you will see her by the door which usually leads to the fight with the Cheshire Cat.
Talking to Node will send you to a totally different area, and before that, a giant eye will appear across your entire screen. You will lose all your SEN while tormented by multiple pairs of eyes staring you down.
You will see Alice and by talking to her you will get transported to a stage with Doll Alice on it.
Grand Guignol will tell you to come towards her, she will even address you as “master”. You will have the option to either resist or offer your soul, by resisting you’ll be initiating a fight with Grand Guignol, while offering your soul will lead to a rather more grim ending.
If you oppose her, a fight will start, and your first opponent will be Waxwork.
All these fights are difficult, as this is probably the toughest enemy in the game. Grand Guignol has multiple phases which you have to get through to finally defeat it.
If you die, you have the ability to try again without loading the save again.
After you get past Waxwork, you will have to fight Alice of Wonderland, Alice of Under Ground, and Alice of Looking-Glass Land.
They will also activate a domain – Vicious Theatre “Femme Fatale”, which will cycle through these debuffs: Attack-100%->Defense-100%->Magic-100%->MDefense-100%.
After getting past these Alices, you will have to fight the Beast of Predation and the Beast of Purity. They also have a domain.
Their domain is Vicious Theatre “The Lion and The Unicorn”, which disables buffs, and it will make you lose defense and evasion up to -100% as turns pass.
Getting past them will bring you to Pure White Prison.
Their domain is Vicious Theatre “Paradise Lost Ex Machina”, your items are disabled, percentage-based damage is halved, and you will lose max hp and speed as turns pass down to -99%.
The next enemy is No Face, his domain is Vicious Theatre “Chaos”, which lowers your defense and mdefense by -95%. It adds -100% to all ailment resistances, and the enemy will also gain a bonus action with each turn.
After defeating No Face, you will fight Queen Alice, and she will have two Gears accompanying her.
Her domain is Vicious Theatre “Alice In Marriage”, it reduces all parameters by -30%, lowers your light/dark/fire/ice/lightning resistances by -100%, and reduces your accuracy/crit/evasion/crit evasion by -30% as well.
After Queen Alice, your next enemy is The Theatre of Darkness, Grand Guignol, and this is where it gets quite interesting. Besides the strange appearance, this enemy alone has multiple phases which you also have to get through.
When you defeat it, it will take a new form and activate its domain – xx Theatre “Curtain Love Call”, this domain disables your dodge and guard.
After taking out this phase Grand Guignol will look even more disfigured, and defeating this phase will finally end the fight.
The Grand Guignol will die, and that’s when it’s finally over, allowing you to reach Ending H.
Offer Your Soul
If you offer your soul to Grand Guignol instead of fighting it, you will go towards it and everything will turn to black. Node will wake you up, and then she will tell you how the Crawling One continues its never-ending assault on Wonderland, but Node says you should be able to deal with it now that you’ve “awakened as a Creator”.
Node will continue with how the Garden is ready, all preparations are done, and “our children are many in number”. Node will apologize for talking for so long, and declare how her body needs your touch. Then supposedly Grand Guignol will also speak, and Node will declare how she will be by your side for all eternity while declaring more love to you.
And then it’s game over.
