Carnacki, the Ghost-Finder is a character in BLACKSOULS 2 that appears in various areas in the DLC3 expansion. He’s an adventurer, but also an author, and he can be very annoying at times because he’s self-centered, but when you get to know him better he’s not that bad at all.
Carnacki is most likely based on Carnacki from Carnacki the Ghost-Finder, a book written by William Hope Hodgson.

Carnacki is one of the characters in the second game that only appears in the DLC3 part of the game.
Meeting Carnacki
You will most likely see Carnacki for the first time in the Avalanche Forest, where he’s standing in the middle of a blood pool. If you talk to him he will tell you how the Lion and the Unicorn fought there, i.e. Unis and Leiden.
He also states how the fate of Winterbell is left in the hands of one of them.
If you talk to him some more, he can seem quite arrogant, and he will be surprised that you don’t even know who he is. He will introduce himself as the Ghost-Finder, Carnacki, the solver of many great mysteries.
He will say that now he’s after the Crown that can make any wish come true. The crown is in the frozen castle, and Unis and Leiden are after it too.
Carnacki is quite greedy.
Kill Ghost-Finder Carnacki
Right when you meet Carnacki, you can also kill him if you don’t like him. This will start a fight with him, it isn’t too hard to kill him, doing so will give you the Ghost-Finder’s Shield, along with an Ouija Board.
Windless Valley
You can find Carnacki at the Windless Valley, right at the bonfire after exiting the Mountains of Madness.
He will be talking to himself while writing his great tale about himself, and when he notices Grimm he will get quite arrogant while belittling you, so much so that even the Cheshire Cat will make a negative remark that will anger him.
However, he will continue with his dialogue and say how you can cross the chain bridge so you can determine the true culprit behind the cry echoing through the valley. And he won’t talk about anything else after that.
The spirit that will wait for you on the chain bridge is Lorde, so good luck defeating him. And then right after defeating Lorde, there’ll be a fog that leads to the Wind of Winterbell, who’s also really strong.
Then after you defeat him too, Carnacki will appear. You’ll be able to tell him that you beat the paranormal being that lurked there, or that he, Carnacki, saved you from it.
If you tell Carnacki that you already beat it, he won’t believe you so he will give you a Sedative so you can stop being mad.
After that, he will tell you how you’re brave for wandering there, and that you’ll be in his next book. You will have a few dialogue options you can respond with, but he’s too self-centered to care about what you have to say.
Storeroom
In the White Castletown area, when you enter one of the buildings there’s a secret door waiting for you to discover it that leads to a secret room.
This secret room is called the Storeroom, and inside it, you can see Carnacki and an odd layout.
He’ll be surprised to see you, and then he’ll point to a room full of treasure, wondering whether the crown could be there or not.
You’ll be able to tell him whether to step or not step on that bridge.
If you tell him to go on it, you’ll just need to give him a Master Key and then he’ll actually approach the door, and step on the bridge. But as soon as he steps on the bridge, it’ll disappear along with him.
But, telling him to go back will actually make him go back, and he won’t attempt to cross the bridge.
Carnacki’s Death
After going through the entirety of Winterbell, and finally entering The Throne, you will find Carnacki in there too, but he will be on the ground, full of despair because there was no crown, stating how it was all a lie.
He will be dying in front of you, but you can clasp his shoulder to try to make him stay, and not fade away.
This won’t work though, but he will give you his notebook – Carnacki’s Notebook, which is something you can use to remember him.
