Meryphillia, the Ghoul

HomeBLACKSOULSMeryphillia, the Ghoul

Meryphillia, the Ghoul is a character in BLACKSOULS 2 that took the physical form of Miranda along with her memories and feelings. This is how Miranda technically survives the events of the first game – she even remembers you.

Appearances | BS2

Meryphillia is in an area that may be a little bit easy to miss if you’re playing for the first time.

Going to Meryphillia

To get to Meryphillia you will first have to go through the Billingsgate Fish Market to get to the Billingsgate Wharf – there you will have to fight the Bellcaller Bellman.

After that, you will unlock the Beach of Grief area and when you come into it go instantly to the right and you will see a small opening that leads further into the area.

Going to Meryphillia, 1

When you come into that part of the Beach of Grief you will be invaded by the nightmare spirit Cannibal Sawney Bean, so you will have to get past him to go further.

This will allow you to reach the Corpse-Eating Demon’s Den where you can find Meryphillia.

Going to Meryphillia, 2

Fighting the Corpse Eating Demon Meryphillia

When you enter the Corpse-Eating Demon’s Den you will sense a black presence and then what appears to be Miranda will come out and fight you.

I sense a black presence, BS2

But when you get into a fight with her you will see that she’s called the Corpse Eating Demon Meryphillia instead of Miranda.

Fighting Meryphillia

If you came to the Corpse-Eating Demon’s Den together with Griffy during her storyline then you will be able to have Griffy help you in the fight against Meryphillia.

Meeting Meryphillia

When the fight with Meryphillia is over she will say that you’re really strong, and you will be able to ask her who she is or call out to her by saying “Miranda?”.

Meryphillia dialogue

If you ask her who she is she will ask you if you don’t remember, saying how she’s Miranda and that you two fought together. But if you ask her “Miranda?” she will say that at first, she didn’t recognize you either, but while you were fighting she remembered.

Meryphillia dialogue, 2

Miranda will be glad that you met again and she wants to talk more so she will tell you to come along with her.

If Griffy is with you she will be shocked that you were friends with a ghoul, saying how she never heard of anything so weird. She will then leave this place to you and will then go to report to Lorina how the mission is complete.

But Griffy will keep quiet about this, so she’ll be keeping the reward.

Talking to Meryphillia

Once the fight with Meryphillia is over she will be at the back of the cave and you will be able to talk to her.

When you approach her she will offer you some meat, you can take the meat she’s offering but you can also reject it. If you take the meat you will get 1 Suspicious Meat.

Miranda will ask if she was strong during the fight, remarking how it’s been a while since she moved so much. She says that she may have gotten rusty.

Meryphillia dialogue, 3

If you tell her “You were strong” she will be happy and laugh a bit.

If you tell her “You were weak” she will say “Tsk…… Have to get stronger……”

If you tell her “I thought I’d die” she will say that you are an undead and that you can’t die so it’s fine even if she kills you. Miranda will ask why you look so angry, and then she will apologize to you.

If you tell her “Don’t use Execution Verdict” she will apologize and say that she wanted to show you that she remembered it.

You can then talk more to Miranda and she will say that someone lived here (in the cave) but he tried attacking her when he saw her. She crushed him and drove him out, saying how he was weak.

Miranda will go on to complain about how no one around here is strong, and how that’s really boring. She thought about going out farther but she’d hate to get wet because of the rain so she didn’t – in the end this was the best place for her to settle down, even though it’s gloomy, for her it’s comfortable.

Miranda will then ask you if you want to live here too, she wants to live together and she thinks it would be fun.

Meryphillia asks if you will live here

When you talk to Meryphillia again you will have the option to have a deathmatch with her, kill her, make love, ask her to service you, or ask her to come with you.

Deathmatch allows you to fight Miranda again, if you try to kill her she will say that you surprised her and that ambushing is a no-no, following up with how you need to say it properly if you want to fight to death. The other two dialogue options activate H scenes, and if you ask her to come with you she will tell you something interesting.

Meryphillia dialogue options

Asking Meryphillia to come with you will lead to her saying that now is the time to stay in hiding, she can’t move very well so it will be risky. Meryphillia says that if “she” finds out about her, she may get erased again, so one day when the time will come for this “fake world” to crumble, she will fight by your side.

Deathmatch

Choosing the Deathmatch dialogue option allows you to fight Meryphillia in a way where you won’t kill her if you defeat her in the fight. She loves fighting, just like she did in the first game so this is something that gets her going basically.

Meryphillia loves fighting you, and she gets stronger with each fight.

You won’t die if you lose to her.

If you defeat her 9 times or more she will say that every time she fights you, her power gets excited – she will say then “This is, this must be…… That love thing……?”.

Meryphillia gets excited

Then Miranda will say that since it’s you, she will give it to you – and then you will receive Miranda’s Axe. She will say that if it’s too heavy you can just throw it away, and that she’s already making another one for herself.

Miranda's Axe

Next time you defeat her instead of giving another axe to you or something like that, Meryphillia will kiss you and ask if you will forgive her.

Meryphillia's kiss

If you forgive Meryphillia she will laugh cutely, and if you don’t forgive her and tell her “Your breath stinks” she will say “Gah……”

Meryphillia’s Backstory

When you report to Lorina that you took care of the ghoul at the Beach of Grief, you will unlock a special dialogue with Meryphillia.

When you come back to the Corpse-Eating Demon’s Den and talk to Meryphillia again you will be able to ask her a few questions.

Meryphillia's backstory questions

If you ask her “Are you really Miranda?” she will start talking about how she felt off, she started liking corpses more than before and her body would instantly regenerate even if she got injured. Meryphillia says she felt as if only her memories remained, and that her body wasn’t her own. But after seeing you that anxiety vanished, and because of that she knows she’s Miranda.

Meryphillia started liking corpses

Meryphillia and her trouble with identity

If you tell her “I remember your death” she will be confused, saying “I…died…?”. Meryphillia will then ask if she died then how is she here, she doesn’t understand because she has no memory of dying, but she doesn’t even remember how she got there – her memories vanished. But then Meryphillia will slowly start remembering things, she will say that she was walking on the beach when she found a corpse washed ashore. The corpse Meryphillia found had her face, and then she ate herself. She will stop recalling what happened after that because she doesn’t want to remember anymore, furiously stating that she’s Miranda and not some Meryphillia.

Miranda found her own corpse

Meryphillia identity crisis

If you tell her “It’s nothing” she will say “Is it…….?”

What happened is that Meryphillia is a Ghoul who somehow managed to find Miranda’s body washed up on the shore. Meryphillia consumed Miranda and that way she obtained her memories, which made her become Miranda in an odd way.

Ghouls aren’t much different from the Undead, they can’t be killed so they usually get beheaded and sent to the Slaughterhouse to be killed forever.

They carry a pathogen that makes them crave dead flesh, they try to become the living. Certain corpse-eaters can read the memories of humans they eat and disguise themselves after them. Lorina says all of this and warns you to not be tricked because accepting the existence of the corpse-eaters would bring “swift ruin to this country”.

There aren’t a lot of ghouls anymore so Lorina was quite surprised to know there’s a ghoul at the Beach of Grief. She dispatched Griffy to take care of Meryphillia – you can do that together with her as it’s a part of her storyline. Her dialogue is where the information on Ghouls comes from.

Endings F and G

If you find Meryphillia and beat her in a fight once, then you will be able to have a special interaction with her and some other important characters during the events of Endings F and G.

While passing through the Little Girl’s Nightmare area you will get to a certain part of the area where Jubjub, Bandersnatch, and Jabberwock will ambush you. They don’t want to let you go further into the area and Jubjub will be especially eager to kill you, but then before she can even do anything, Meryphillia will come out of nowhere and hit her from the back.

Meryphillia hits Jubjub

Meryphillia will tell you that you need to hurry and that you should leave this to her.

If you choose to leave the Three Nightmares to her she will say “Let’s meet again, once we’re back in reality….” and you will go on further while she’ll be left fighting them. Jubjub will let out a loud laugh and make fun of Meryphillia, saying “Some corpse-eater dares to act all cool!! Bitch, I’ll smash your rotten brain to pieces!!”.

Jubjub calls Meryphillia a bitch

If you choose to fight together with Meryphillia then Jabberwock will immediately teleport behind Meryphillia saying “Let me take, this, head…♪”, but then Hein will appear all of a sudden and stop her from killing Meryphillia.

Endings F and G, 3

Hein will be very mad so Jabberwock will make fun of him saying “Oh my, my? What’s the matter, little Hein? You got your desired happy dream, didn’t you~? And now you want to wake up too?”

Endings F and G, Jabberwock, 1, 4

And Hein will respond by saying “Damn it! Damn it all! I’ve been in the audience for so long and yet I still remembered! I still climbed onto the stage! Your fault, Miranda! I’m so fed up with it all!”

Miranda will quietly call his name, and he will say “It’s Lord Hein for you!! …Good grief, it’s such a pain to be in charge of foolish juniors!”

Everyone will slowly start getting ready to fight each other.

Then Miranda will ask Hein if he can handle it, so he will laugh and ask her who she thinks he is, claiming that he’s the strongest of the Black Trial, while addressing himself as Lord Hein. He says that only this time they’re joining forces because once he gets out of this “sham of a dream” he will become a real conductor in reality.

You will be able then to say “Your soul burns” or “You’re risking your life”.

If you say “Your soul burns”, Hein will say “Ah, you get it… My soul is ablaze, it urges me to act! It’s not a ‘hunt’, but a ‘battle’ that it wants!”

And if you say “You’re risking your life”, Miranda will say that in other words, it wouldn’t be a waste to lay her life for your cause.

After you, Meryphillia, and Hein defeat the Three Nightmares, there will be a big feud between the three of them because Jubjub and Bandersnatch don’t want to fight anymore. Jabberwock will then eliminate them both and Meryphillia will remark that she’s terrifying, and that “this pressure” reminds her of Baphomet, while also saying that Jabberwock is not of this world.

Endings F and G, Jabberwock, 12

Hein will then butt in to talk about the Great Ones and their role in everything and how Jabberwock is one of them. At one point in the dialogue you will have a dialogue option to say “Must be hard to have toxic parents” (this seems to be directed at Jabberwock) and then Miranda will say that Jabberwock is no different from Baphomet and that she only thinks of herself.

All this will then lead to the fight with Jabberwock. And after that tough battle is over she and Miranda will talk for a little bit before Jabberwock seemingly dies.

Miranda will ask Jabberwock why all of them (Great Ones) treat humans as nothing more than disposable toys and even their own children. She says that it would’ve been fine if only you gave just a little bit of love, continuing with “Why couldn’t you understand that….?”.

Endings F and G, Jabberwock, 24

Endings F and G, Jabberwock, 25

Jabberwock responds to all of that by saying that she doesn’t realize what Miranda is talking about. She will say that there’s nothing fun about watching simple and honest love, and then she will disappear and that part will be over.

Endings F and G, Jabberwock, 26

Endings F and G, Jabberwock, 27

Miranda will stay silent and Hein will tell her that she shouldn’t preach reason to them, because even he didn’t understand it back then.

Hein seems to be greatly wounded and that will make Meryphillia worry, so she will call him by his name but he will say “Dammit… No respect for me anymore…”, drawing attention to the fact she didn’t call him “Lord Hein” as she should have.

Hein will say that he’s done for and that the last battle was a little bit too much for him, and that he’s dying this time for sure. Meryphillia will say “God of Death, don’t die… If you die now, my dreams will only get worse…”, and he will tell her laughingly that she has become much more human while he wasn’t around.

Hein will tell her to not worry because once he dies he will every night sit by her bed and eat tasty souls and show off. But he will mutter that if he survives, then they should also invite Lindamea.

Meryphillia will apologize to you and say that she can’t help you until the end and that she’s leaving the rest to you. She says that once this world collapses and that once you all return to reality, you should all meet again.

Meryphillia will go somewhere else with Hein and you will be alone again.

Personality

Meryphillia isn’t too different from Miranda in terms of personality, she acts and behaves like her, but also has an incredible love for corpses because she’s a ghoul. She’s more talkative than Miranda is in the first game, and she still likes making love to the player but seems to prefer fighting him instead.

Design

Meryphillia’s design hasn’t changed much from how Miranda looked in the first game, but there are still noticeable changes in certain details on her outfit, and the art style and the coloring are of higher quality.
