Mad Bird Jubjub

Mad Bird Jubjub is a character in BLACKSOULS 2 you can find at the top of the Sick Clock Tower, in the Jubjub’s Nest area. She’s a mad bird who likes to spread madness all across Wonderland, she’s also addressed by Node as one of the Four Nightmares.

She’s based on the Jubjub bird mentioned in works written by Lewis Carroll – the poems “Jabberwocky” and “The Hunting of the Snark“.

Jubjub makes important appearances in the second game and she plays a crucial role in its story.

Meeting Jubjub

Getting to Jubjub takes some time as she’s located on the top of the Sick Clock Tower – she has her own nest there.

To get to Jubjub’s Nest, you will first have to travel through the entire Sick Clock Tower to reach the top of it. Go upstairs and pass the fog if you want to meet Jubjub. You can get to these areas after you reach Ox Ward University and go through it.

Jubjub’s Nest will at first be empty, but then she’ll fly towards you.

If you tell her you’re going to Alice, she’ll just tell you to get naked and then attack you.

Fighting the Mad Bird Jub-Jub

Jubjub has her own unique model during the fight, where you can see her just as you would outside the fight.

Before the fight, and before reaching Jubjub’s Nest, you can summon Peter Pan to help you fight her. But when you get to the fight, he will betray you, and he will be on her side, fighting you – Jubjub is a very attractive woman, I can understand him.

Jubjub has a ton of health, but she isn’t hard to beat at all, defeating her will give you a Tainted Black Soul, and an Ore Slab.

Defeated Jubjub

When you defeat Jubjub in a fight you will be presented with a few options, before killing her for real. You can either enter a covenant with her, kill her, or force her to an intercourse with you.

Forming a covenant will Jubjub will not prevent her from killing most of the NPCs in the game after a certain level of progression. Only killing her, or sending her to the dungeon, will prevent her and everyone else from going mad in the game.

Killing her will give you the Soul of the Jubjub, and the Gear of Madness.

The Gear of Madness is one of the most useful items in the game because with it you can change your SEN whenever you want.

Covenant

Jubjub is one of the characters in the game you can form a covenant with. The covenant will increase your EVA&MEV stats, along with the chances for Magic Reflect. The final level of the covenant increases both statistics up to 30%. Her covenant is one of the more expensive ones.

When you reach a certain level within her covenant, Jubjub will be willing to sing for you if you want to. You will have a selection of songs you can choose her to sing, and all songs are rather morbid.

When you level up the covenant with Jubjub enough, she will ask you what you’re thinking about. Regardless of what you answer, she’ll start mocking you for liking Alice saying how she’s just an inappropriate fantasy in your head and nothing else.

Miscellaneous interactions with Jubjub.

Golden Chick

If Jubjub’s Madness is active and the Golden Chick is born, then the next time you come to visit her you will see Jubjub checking her out. This is one of the rare occasions where you can see Jubjub being kind and compassionate, which is odd considering she has a habit of mass murder.

Jubjub will come towards the Golden Chick and she will call her a good girl while laughing. The Golden Chick will be surprised so Jubjub will give her a bit of candy to assure her, and the Golden Chick will thank her big sis.

Jubjub will say in a playful tone it’s fine because she has more candy than she can ever eat, and then she will ask the Golden Chick if she feels lonely house-sitting here forever because she doesn’t know when her father will come back.

The Golden Chick will say she feels lonely and Jubjub will offer her to come and live with her instead, with big sis. But the Golden Chick will refuse, saying how she’s with her mother (in this case the “mother” is Humpty Dumpty).

Jubjub will no longer be in a good mood and she will be quite upset, so she will tell the Golden Chick that she should get going and that she should be a good girl.

The Golden Chick will tell her to come again, and Jubjub will instantly say yes but she will go back on her words, saying how she shouldn’t be spending time with strangers. The Golden Chick will say goodbye to her big sis, and Jubjub will fly away.

Jubjub’s Madness

Jubjub’s Madness is an event that happens when the game reaches 10 Progression Points, if Jubjub is still alive and not in a dungeon. When the conditions are met Jubjub will cause madness throughout the entirety of Wonderland – she will kill people, make people kill themselves, and do other very morbid and grotesque things.

Everyone will go mad and if you suddenly lose one of your covenants out of nowhere, then it’s probably because you hit 10 Progression Points and Jubjub is still out there.

Fighting the Bird of Cosmos

If you have 0 SEN then the fight with Jubjub will look different. She will be in her nightmare form, fighting you as the Bird of Cosmos. She’s stronger than regular Mad Bird Jub-Jub so you should prepare yourself if you’re looking to fight that version of her – the amount of souls you get from her is significantly higher.

Endings F and G

If you found Meryphillia and beat her in a fight once then you will be ambushed by Jubjub, Jabberwock, and Bandersnatch while going through the Little Girl’s Nightmare area in the events of Endings F and G.

At a certain part of the Little Girl’s Nightmare, Jubjub will block your way and the others will appear too. If you tell them to move if they don’t want to die, Jubjub will be intrigued by your determination and she will say how your soul used to be weak but now you’re burning with power. She will start getting mad because she thinks you’re underestimating them, but suddenly Meryphillia will come from right behind her and cut her midsentence.

If you leave Meryphillia to fight them on her own, Jubjub will get even angrier because “some corpse-eater dares to act all cool”.

But if you stick with her and defeat Jubjub and the rest, Jubjub will give up on fighting further saying that it isn’t worth it. She just wanted to have some fun so she tells you she doesn’t care if you wake up from the dream. Bandersnatch will take her side as well and they will try to leave but Jabberwock will stop them.

Jubjub will notice that she can’t move and that there’s some kind of a curse seal. It’s also the same case for Bandersnatch.

Jabberwock will be disappointed because the two of them gave up on fighting, so Jubjub will call her a granny saying how she worked really hard to smash the minds of whole countries to pieces. Jubjub will call out Jabberwock for doing nothing and just making snowmen.

Jabberwock will reply by saying that she “can’t help but lament reminiscing of how nice you old were”, she tells Jubjub that they can pretend their souls are stained black all they want but all she needs is a single touch to know. She says how their souls are mixed with impurities now and that means there’s no value, future, or hope for them, ending the sentence with “…What I see is nothing but discolored ash”.

Jubjub and Bandersnatch will start screaming, presumably in pain, before being blasted off by Jabberwock.

Little Sister Alice

Jubjub is the real identity of Little Sister Alice. She’s one of the Three Alices you have to choose at the beginning of the cycle, and out of the three, she’s the one who cares about you the most.

Little Sister Alice is tired of Wonderland and the never-ending cycles. During Ending H she’s the one who stops Mother Alice and Daughter Alice from attacking you, letting you escape so you can find the real Alice waiting for you. This will make them stop for a bit, which leads to a moment where the Three Alices’ true identities are shown.

In Winterbell you can find a flashback of an argument Mabel and Little Sister Alice had – it ends with Little Sister Alice not being able to deny she fell in love with her older brother, and she then proceeds to insult Mabel. Her language is often quite vulgar.

Little Sister Alice seems to care about Daughter Alice and Mother Alice – she doesn’t want to leave them alone in Wonderland. For more detail on Little Sister Alice check out the Alice post and the argument section in Mabel’s.

Personality

Jubjub is dominant, and she’s quite passionate when it comes to love. Her personality is fun, and she’s just naturally charming, both physically and psychologically. However, she can get mad at certain times.

Design

I can’t talk about Jubjub’s clothing because she doesn’t have any on herself, she’s at all times naked. Her body has a nice figure, and she’s definitely one of the most attractive characters in the game.

Her hair has two colors, black and white. She also has wings that are separated by color, just like her hair is. Instead of regular human arms and legs, she has giant bird arms and legs that come with sharp claws.
