Black Chaplain Ezwald

HomeBLACKSOULSBlack Chaplain Ezwald

Black Chaplain Ezwald is an NPC and a member of the Black Trial in the first BLACKSOULS game who is able to forgive your sins.

Appearances | BS1

Accumulating sins will lead to the Black Trial chasing you and seeking to kill you, so if you don’t want to be constantly bothered it’s best to keep the sin metric in the game low.

Ezwald can be found in the Holy Forest, in the first part of it to the north where you meet Leaf for the first time. To have one of your sins forgiven, you have to give him 5000 souls.

Ezwald’s Intentions

It’s not clear why Ezwald is in the Holy Forest, as it should be a place naturally inaccessible to the members of the Black Trial and other hostile entities – even Baphomet couldn’t find it without Grimm.

Elisabeth pokes fun at him for running away from “home”, but he responds by calling her by her surname which not many people know. Miranda is also confused about why Ezwald is in the Holy Forest.

Ending C

Ezwald makes a brief appearance in Ending C of the game. He appears in the disfigured Holy Forest, specifically at the part of the Holy Forest where the bonfire is, and he will be sitting on a conveniently placed sofa.

He will be laughing by himself, speaking of how the world is ending. And then he will start calling for Mary Sue, saying how she’s a true God that we have to worship now, labeling her as the “Goddess of the End”.

Ezwald will then suddenly die, and just a pool of blood will be left on the sofa he was sitting on.

Appearances | BS2

It’s not certain whether Ezwald actually appears in BS2 or not. There’s an enemy and a fairytale you can encounter in the Nameless Forest, that looks a lot like Ezwald, although it’s quite disfigured.

The Gigantic Turnip has hair and a face like Ezwald, and his signature tree branches are sticking out of the weird amalgamation. This enemy is placed in the part of the game where other BS1 characters reappear, so it’s not bold to assume this could be him, just in a different form.
