Winterbell Visual Novel

Liddell estate

When you reach a certain part of Winterbell, you will see Alice but she will go away from you. If you go to where she went to you will be greeted by a pair of doors you can go through. Once enter that door you will be transferred to the visual novel section of the DLC3, where you’re Lewis Carroll taking care of the Liddell sisters.

This sequence will start with a conversation between Lewis Carroll and Mr. Robinson, who was Carroll’s friend, and also one of the people present on the boat ride during the original telling of Alice. The conversation will be about Alice.

When you enter their home, you will be greeted by Alice, Lorina, and then Edith.

Edith is late

In the living room, Edith will be eating her toast, while Alice and Lorina be doing something together.

Edith eating

When the second day comes, Edith will be with Lorina in the living room, where she’ll recite the lyrics of the Lion and the Unicorn nursery rhyme, and Lorina will recite the other part of it after Edith is done.

Lorina will tell Edith to cut the cake with a knife and hand it around, but Edith is afraid of knives so she can’t do it.

When the night comes, and after you leave your room you will hear Edith coughing. You can ask her if she’s alright and then she’ll tell you she needs medicine. When you go down to the 1st floor corridor you may see someone staring at you through the door’s window.

To find Edith’s medicine you need to go into the living room and inspect the room 4 times, and then you will find a bottle of medicine labeled “VENUS”. A very common mistake while bringing Edith her medicine is that you can get transferred automatically to another day if you interact with other stuff as well.

Edith's medicine

So to bring Edith her medicine, when you hear her coughing check up on her, don’t click anything else and go straight to the living room, get the medicine, and then go into her room.

She will thank you for bringing the medicine, she will apologize for having a weak body and causing trouble to him and her sisters. Then you can sleep together with her, and initiate a NSFW scene.

Edith aplogizes

You will wake up in Edith’s room, and she won’t be able to get out of bed because of you.

The next night you can come to Edith’s room again. She will be frightened because she thinks there is someone under her bed. Carroll will look under the bed and no one will be there, but once he looks back up Edith will be missing.

Edith is scared

If you survive all days, the three sisters will be waiting for you in the 1st floor corridor, because you’re leaving that day. While going through the door, you have the option to turn around, and if you do, you will realize they’re all just puppets.

Dead Edith

There’s a good chance you won’t be able to find the medicine in the living room. The next day when you wake up Edith will still be sleeping while other sisters will be already downstairs. Lorina will also confirm this and say how their tea party is postponed because of her.

Edith is sleeping

When the 4th day comes you can see Edith in the living room. Even though she still seems sick, she will greet you nicely. Carroll will ask Edith where is Lorina, and she will say how she went to wake Alice. Lorina will come down and say how there’s no Alice, Lorina will suspect you know something, and Carroll will respond how Alice moved to a faraway place.

Edith will try to calm Lorina down, but then Edith will start puking out a black liquid, that’ll also start coming out of her eyes. Edith will fall on the floor, and Lorina will run away.

Edith dies

The night will come and you can go to Edith’s room now, although it’s empty. On the bed there’s a bottle of drugs labeled with “VENOM”, so it’s likely Edith drank that instead of her medicine.

Aftermath

After these events took place, Edith suffered a tragic fate because of the Outer Ones playing with her. You can find her inside the Mental Ward – in the game she’s in a part that’s deep inside and it can be tricky to get to her.

Edith will be in the form of the Great Grey Eagle Edith, who’s a demonbeast you have to fight if you go through the fog.

Lovecraft Cinema

Lovecraft Cinema is a place in Queensland you can visit to watch movies if you’re on a date with Prickett. These movies are short cutscenes that show some important moments of some characters from the game, revealing more of their backstory.

One of these movies is titled “Isolation Room’s Neighbor”, and it’s about the relationship between Holmes and Edith, who are both locked up in the Mental Ward.

Isolation Room's Neighbor

The “movie” starts with Holmes having a mental breakdown. He’s thinking of how he shouldn’t even be locked in the mental ward, while also not being able to remember why and how long he has been there. He vows to himself to kill all the whores who are ruining the outside world – Holmes totally breaks down and lets out a howl of rage while smashing his hands into the floor again and again.

This triggered a reaction from Edith Liddell, who’s his “neighbor”. During the monologue in his head, he described her as a very shy and weak girl who was barely even able to tell him her name. He knows Edith isn’t a whore, and he also knows she’s in a tough situation as well.

Edith is also locked in the mental ward, and according to him “she’s been here from before and never seen the outside world”.

Her situation made Holmes realize how truly pitiful she is.

Edith decided to try to calm Holmes down, by telling him to not be angry, very shily in a frail voice. Holmes decides to calm down to not hurt Edith, and she responds with how she’s glad to hear that – Holmes describes her voice as “trembling”.

Holmes and Edith kept talking to each other, “stopping only to sleep”. They talk about the outside world, about Edith’s sisters, and her favorite ring. Holmes will declare how he wishes to protect her, as the world outside would easily break her.

Holmes admits to himself that he doesn’t hate all women, but just the “swarms of whores” who spread sickness outside. He doesn’t want to let Edith see the outside until he slaughters all the whores.

This cuts to a moment where Holmes is telling Edith how he will one day take her outside, even though it will take time, Holmes asks her if she will wait until then. Edith promises while sobbing that she will wait no matter how long it takes.

Personality

Edith is the youngest and the most fragile out of the three Liddell sisters. She’s intimidated easily and often pushes the hard and scary work onto her older sisters. This is a reference to how the real-life version of Edith was the youngest sister, who died when she was quite young – 22 years old.

Design

Edith is a small and fragile girl. She has long blonde hair and blue eyes. Her skin is pale and, on her head, she has a flower headdress. Edith is dressed in modest-looking clothes that are light brown. Her face is expressive, and she usually appears to be shy and anxious.
