The Deep Sea Knight

HomeBLACKSOULSThe Deep Sea Knight

The Deep Sea Knight, or the Carpenter, is an enemy in BLACKSOULS 2 you can find at a specific part of the Deep Sea area. He’s one of the optional bosses in the game, although he’s in the area where enemies are really tough, you can easily kill him if you’re strong enough.

He’s based on the Carpenter from Lewis Caroll’s book “Through the Looking-Glass, and What Alice Found There”.

The Carpenter is an important side character in the history of Wonderland.

The Deep Sea Knight is also known as the Carpenter. He built many things in Wonderland before going insane at the bottom of the Deep Sea.

Fighting the Deep Sea Knight

The Carpenter has one of the best soundtracks in the game. If you kill him, you’ll be able to reach Kuti, and you’ll also be able to progress further in the covenant with Wolris.

When you kill him you will get the Soul of the Deep Sea Knight which you can give to the Jack-in-the-Box in exchange for the Deep Sea Knight’s Anchor.

Prayer Master’s Grave

In the Mushroom Village, there’s a hidden area you can get to by having 0 SEN, which will make one of the big houses disappear in the northeast part of the area.

When you get to the Backyard area there will be a big house behind a fog, and a sign before it that says “BLACK RABBIT”. Going through the fog will initiate a fight with the house and you will be forced to fight the Giant House secret boss.

Defeating the Giant House will reveal the Prayer Master’s grave. The house and the grave were all built by the Carpenter, and dedicated to the dead Prayer Master.

Carpenter in Wonderland

From everything you can see in the game, it seems like the Carpenter had a big role in Wonderland by building buildings, elevators, and other essential structures. He is called the Carpenter after all, but when you find him he’s the Deep Sea Knight protecting the Secret Princess Kuti.

The Carpenter most likely lost his sanity, because if he really knew the Prayer Master then that means he has been in Wonderland for a very long time. He built the Lutwidge Town or at least the majority of the buildings in it and they aren’t of the best construction, Sullivan complains about them saying how there are a lot of “those shaking, rumbling houses, they look like they’ll collapse any moment now!”.

Sullivan's dialogue, 4

He says the Carpenter is at fault and that he got all of it paid for by the Queen of the Heart, and then he “went to town on making them, (he) left us in a trash heap, and left somewhere, the bastard!”.

At the Tenniel Bridge, you can find a secret advice mark if you have 0 SEN that is most likely left by the Carpenter. “‘I want to meet God’, is what I thought. If I piled up more and more houses, wouldn’t I get close to Cosmos<Heaven>? Or maybe it’d make a landmark prominent enough for this land’s disasters to be noticed.”, this explains his actions a bit, but maybe also the desire to travel to the lowest part of Wonderland, where he eventually got brainwashed by Kuti.

The Carpenter and Wolris were close, but he never came back and he stayed with Kuti instead, building a beautiful house for her at the bottom of the ocean. The Carpenter liked Kuti and at the elevator that leads to Ship Graveyard, there’s a statue of Wolris where she’s portrayed as a thin woman, which isn’t how she looks like.

There’s a secret message in the statue you can find if you interact with it while you have 0 SEN and it goes “O God, please help my gluttonous, carefree friend. Please don’t treat her like a puppet on a stage. Please don’t expend her.”. The Carpenter seems to be aware of the things going on in Wonderland, at least to some extent.

The majority of the elevators are built by the Carpenter.
