Zombie

Zombies are a really iconic part of Minecraft that you’ll always encounter during the night, no matter where you go. It’s a hostile undead mob that isn’t that strong but in hordes (or in the baby form) can be quite tough to defeat. It comes in all shapes and colors (quite literally) and its design is universally recognized by everyone.

Spawning

Zombies in Minecraft spawn in Overworld during the night, or anywhere where the light level is 0 (but that doesn’t include Mushroom Fields and Deep Dark biomes). They mostly spawn in groups and are quite annoying. Sometimes they can spawn as Baby Zombies, while at other times they can Villager Zombies.

Sometimes Zombies may even carry certain equipment you have the chance of getting once you kill them. And there’s a slight chance they’ll drop an iron ingot, carrot, or potato when you kill them, instead of only getting Rotten Flesh.

In pretty rare occurrences you can see baby zombies riding a chicken (and sometimes they’ll even have a sword in hand).

Variations

Here are all the variations of the Zombie mob.

Husks

Husks are just the desert variant of the zombies with a high chance (of 80%) of spawning in the desert biomes. They’re not that different from the regular zombies – the only difference lying in design – they inflict hunger when they hit you, and they don’t burn in sunlight.

Drowned

Drowned is the water variant of the zombies with a chance of spawning in ocean ruins, rivers, and other big bodies of water. Regular zombies can become Drowned if they, drown. They’re very annoying at times, especially when there’s a chance of them spawning with a trident that inflicts a lot of damage if it gets thrown at you.

Zombie Villagers

Zombie Villagers are the villager variant of the zombies with a chance of 5% spawning instead of the regular zombie. Regular Villagers when killed by zombies also have a chance of turning into zombie villagers, which is quite fun.

You can cure zombie villagers by throwing a potion of weakness on them and feeding them a Golden Apple at the same time. They’ll start shaking and after a little time passes they’ll turn back to the villager form.

More about Zombies

Zombies can also break doors if they feel like it. But that only happens on the Hard and Hardcore difficulties.

Some zombies can even pick up dropped items. So you can basically fully gear up a zombie if you find the one that accepts stuff.

For some reason zombies like attacking baby turtles and turtle eggs, which is quite sad and disturbing.

In Bedrock Edition the baby version of a zombie can ride most of the animals in the game, including pandas and cows.
