Gateways to Eternity

Gateways to Eternity is a great Minecraft mod if you’re looking for an RPG-like challenge. With this mod you can open portals that will summon various waves of different mobs you have to defeat, by defeating them you can get specific loot and overall it’s a very nice way to spend time grinding in a classic manner.
Sky Villages

Wouldn’t it be cool to have villages in the sky? I think it would because there’s something very interesting about exploring areas that are located far above, in the sky. All these villages have a unique design – it’s pretty fun.
Explorify

Just as the name of the mod suggests, this mod is great for expanding all sorts of things you can explore in the game. Explorify adds plenty of new structures for you to explore, and it makes the Minecraft world feel more lively and RPG-like.
Shield Expansion

Shield Expansion makes combat even better in Minecraft by revamping the way how shields work in the game. There are new tiers of shields and new mechanics, such as parrying that will make you feel like you’re playing Dark Souls. They also fit Vanilla Minecraft’s aesthetic pretty well.
Iron’s Spells ‘n Spellbooks

Iron’s Spells ‘n Spellbooks is one of the most fun magic mods for Minecraft – it adds a whole lot of new spells and a magic system that’s simple to understand. Fighting with these new weapons is amazing, especially if you have a worthy opponent worthy of your attention.
Wavey Capes

If you have a cape then you’ll most definitely want to put the Wavey Capes mod into your game. With this mod in your game, the cape isn’t solid but rather it moves and acts like a cape would in real life while moving, jumping, and etc.
Sit

Sit is a very simple Minecraft mod. Just as the name says, with this mod you will be able to sit on slab and stair blocks. It’s something that’s present on a lot of Minecraft servers through plugins, so why not have it in your singleplayer world as well?
Stargate Journey

Wanna get your hands on an ancient device that will allow you to travel through different planets? Stargate Journey is a very cool mod if you’re looking to easily leap through interesting dimensions. To begin traveling through planets, you will have to find a special item in your world, that can’t be crafted.
More Totems Of Undying

More Totems Of Undying makes totems of undying in Minecraft way more fun – it adds new types of totems of undying that have their own special effects. All of these totems are related to certain mobs and their abilities are tied to those mobs as well.
Loot Journal

Loot Journal will bring into the game that RPG aesthetic by including the display of recently collected items. It’s stylish and the design is well-done, also it’s very customizable so you can set it up to exactly how it fits your style.
More Bows: Restrung!

There isn’t a lot to archery in Minecraft and it gets boring after a short amount of time. More Bows: Restrung! adds new bows into the game that make archery something really worth investing your time in during your playthrough.
Apotheosis

A great mod for an RPG setting that overhauls a bunch of things at once is Apotheosis. It adds different features to all aspects of the game and makes certain mechanics very interesting – such as potion brewing, mob spawners, enchanting, adventuring, and even gardening.
Towns and Towers

Towns and Towers adds over 50 new structures into the game that consist of towers and towns populated by villagers. The mod goes very in-depth regarding that aspect of structure generation in the game and makes the entire world feel significantly more alive, which is great if you hate feeling alone.
Artifacts

Artifacts is a great Minecraft mod if you like collecting stuff. It adds a bunch of collectibles, or artifacts, that you can find in your world. Some of them are really powerful, and some are really stylish. Some are harder to find than others, but in general, it feels rewarding to go searching and collecting these new items.
Boat Item View

I think you can guess what the mod called Boat Item View does in the game, with this mod you can view an item in your hand while driving a boat, which you can’t really do in the normal instance of Minecraft.
Scaling Health

Scaling Health is a great RPG mod for the game if you’re looking to make the game significantly harder, or maybe you just want to balance it out if you’re playing with some mods. Difficulty increases over time during your playthrough, which means mobs can get extra health after a certain amount of time, and etc. There’s much more to this mod which you can easily configure to completely direct how difficult your playthrough is going to be.
Simple Tomb

Simple Tomb is a mod that makes you leave a tomb with all of your items whenever you die in the game, and in my opinion, it nicely fits the RPG aesthetic. Whenever you die a tomb will spawn and you will get a key when you respawn that’ll help you get to your tomb. The tombs are quite stylish and have details of your death on them.
Crawl on Demand

One of my favorite mods on this list is Crawl on Demand. Even though the mod doesn’t add a lot of stuff, the ability to just crawl without having to use a trapdoor is very cool and I just love it too much to not include it here. It provides plenty of opportunities for hidden base ideas.
Healing Campfire

Healing Campfire is a cute mod that fits in the RPG aesthetic, at least in my opinion. It creates a healing area where you and other friendly mobs can get slowly healed if some of your health is missing. It’s a neat addition and certainly a useful one.
The Outer End

The End dimension can feel quite empty, so to make the adventuring more fun and RPG-like, you should get The Outer End mod. This mod adds new biomes to the End dimension, new structures, and new mobs, so it’s way more fun to be around in this dimension instead of abandoning it forever after beating the Ender Dragon and finding an elytra.
Map Atlases

Map Atlases mod adds a map atlas into the game, which is done in a very detailed manner that fits the original design of Minecraft. Not only that, but it’s also quite realistic and cool to have, making it a balanced way to have a view of your surroundings in the game.
The Aether II

The Aether II is a sequel to the original Aether mod – it adds a new dimension that’s basically Heaven, an opposite to the Nether, and it’s great for RPG-like dungeon exploration and finding new weapons and other items. It’s one of the best dimension mods out there, and certainly worth having in your world.
River Redux

If you want a larger variety of rivers in your world then you should get River Redux in your game. This mod adds 3 new river biomes and it improves the way how rivers generate in your world. I like this mod especially because I like exploring the world, but hate seeing the same rivers generating over and over again.
Dungeons Plus

Dungeons Plus adds new cool RPG dungeons into the game. They’re close to the style of Vanilla Minecraft, and there are 7 of them that you can explore. You can find some new interesting items in them and it’s just fun to have this kind of challenge in the game, especially if you’re aiming for an RPG-like experience.
Mine Cells

I don’t know if you played Dead Cells, it’s basically a rouge-like video game, but this mod adds content from it straight to Minecraft and it fits it incredibly well. You have with this mod 5 unique new dimensions with 2 new bosses, along with a lot of new mobs, weapons, spells, and blocks that you can use in your buildings. Its aesthetic is unique.
Waystones

Waystones mod is a great addition to your world if you don’t want to spend the majority of your time traveling between locations you already explored. You can simply put two waystones that will allow you to fast travel between them, it’s really useful and RPG-like.
Paragliders

Paragliders in real life are scary, but in Minecraft, they’re certainly cool! Even though there’s an elytra, there’s just something special about jumping with a paraglider off from a mountain – the aesthetic is irreplaceable and it just feels nice.
Tips

And the last mod on this list is Tips! A quite simple mod, that brings the RPG aesthetic closer to the player, by introducing game tips during loading screens! It’s something you can see in almost every RPG game, and it’s a fun feature regardless.
