So, are you bored of the default Minecraft textures? I’m too, and that’s why I decided to gather plenty of texture packs that fit different categories, so anyone who’s unsure about what to choose can easily navigate this article and find their favorite Minecraft texture pack.
I think there’s a little bit of everything for everyone here, but for those who don’t know what exactly texture packs do, let me explain. Texture packs or resource packs are additions to Minecraft you can easily import into the game that change how the game looks without modifying the game’s content itself, just the visuals.
This means you can have x-ray without downloading another client or maybe you just want your game to run faster. And that’s much easier than adding mods into the game.
There’s basically anything you can imagine, even texture packs that feature fully custom items you can get by renaming certain things a certain way. For some texture packs, you’ll need OptiFine though, so just keep that in mind.
How Install a Minecraft Texture Pack
Categories:
Aesthetic
These texture packs are the ones I thought have a unique look that brings a certain aesthetic to life in Minecraft.
Dokucraft

Dokucraft is probably one of the oldest Minecraft texture packs that are still being updated. There are 3 different versions of the texture pack, light, high, and dark – and in my opinion, this texture pack is the best for those who like the settings of old-school RPGs or maybe even dark fantasy. It’s really nice and sustained by the community where anyone can contribute, and maybe even you.
John Smith Legacy

John Smith Legacy is similar to Dokucraft in a way, which means this texture pack will be adored by RPG game lovers because of the unique feeling the textures give. There are 2 versions of the texture pack, John Smith Legacy and John Smith Legacy JimStoneCraft Edition. The differences are quite significant, but both are pretty cool in my opinion. JSL is more traditional while JSC has smoother textures that are easier to look at, but JSL would be my choice personally.Â
PureBDcraft

I’ll be really subjective here because this is in my opinion one of the best Minecraft texture packs of all time and my favorite one to play with. PureBDcraft is one of the BDcraft texture packs that have really smooth textures done in a unique comic style that creates its own aesthetic which I’m really fond of. There are a lot of variations of this texture pack and you should really check out their website to see all the cool texture packs you can find on there.
Golden Days

Do you miss the good old days of Minecraft before it got released? Or do you maybe want to live those days if you haven’t already, well, you can’t really because that was over a long time ago. But the Golden Days texture pack will make your game look how it looked before it officially got released so you can take a look at how it felt like to play Minecraft back in the good ol’ days.
Wolfhound Fairy

And the last choice on this list is one of the texture packs I also really like and frequently use. Wolfhound is one of the best medieval texture pack series that has versions that accompany almost all aesthetics you can think of, from the classic Medieval version to the Heavenly angelic one. You can check out all the versions if the Fairy one doesn’t do it for you, it’s certainly a unique way to play the game.Â
Fun
If you don’t want to make your game all serious with the texture packs like the ones in the aesthetic section, then you’ll maybe like these ones.
Bare Bones

Does Minecraft ever tire your eyes? After hours of playing sometimes I get sick of all the complex textures I’m seeing and wish to switch to something much, much easier to look at. And that’s why this is the perfect texture pack for that because not only that it makes everything clearer, but it also looks like the textures they use in all that nice Minecraft promo art.
Animated And Emissive: Ice and Fire and Spartan Weaponry

Fire and ice weapons that glow in the dark with their powerful aura are something I always wanted to have in vanilla Minecraft. But oh well, with the help of texture packs and maybe OptiFine, you’ll be able to experience that exact thing without a problem. Honestly, fighting has never been as fun as it is with these textures.
The Pixelmon Mod OST

Do you like Pixelmon? Or do you just want to change your Minecraft music to feel something new and fresh while going on long adventures and mining sprees? Well, if any of those is the case I’d recommend you the Pixelmon OST texture pack that just replaces your default Minecraft music with the Pixelmon’s soundtrack. And if you don’t know what Pixelmon is – it’s basically Pokemon but in Minecraft, it’s a very fun mod you should try out too.
Tissou’s Zombie Pack

Sometimes while playing Minecraft I’m really tired of seeing the same zombies over and over again. I used to enjoy the Crafting Dead modpack a lot and the zombies they have, so to relive that experience I sometimes add Tissou’s Zombie Pack if I’m playing on any vanilla-like textures. It has more than 1000 different textures, and it changes how zombies, husks, villager zombies, and drowned look.Â
Enhanced Boss Bars

The Enchanted Boss Bars texture pack does what it says, basically, it adds super cool boss bars to all the bosses in the game that look like something that’d come out of an even cooler RPG game. This texture pack even supports some famous mods with unique bosses – I’ll not be leaving that list though, you can find it on the texture pack’s download page.
Fresh Animations

If you think your Minecraft world doesn’t feel lively enough you should try installing this texture pack into your game. The reason why is that it adds new fresh animations for most of the mobs in the game and it really makes playing Minecraft a little bit more unique. To use this texture pack you’ll need to have OptiFine’s Custom Entity Models (CEM) feature on.
Useful
The CreatorPack

This is one of the go-to texture packs if you’re looking to make your building experience in Minecraft overall better. It smoothes out all textures in the game and makes them cleaner while not drifting away from the original Minecraft textures. It can fit most aesthetics and that’s what’s its charm.
Visible Ores

This texture pack really reminds me of old Minecraft YouTube animations that always had those cool glowing effects added to the ores if they were shown in the video. And honestly, it’s just really cool to be mining in the dark until a shining ore reveals its position with such a beautiful glow. Although you need Optifine for this texture pack, it’s definitely worth the hustle to experience it.
Stay True

If you’re tired of the repetitiveness that the default Minecraft texture pack brings with itself then Stay True Minecraft texture pack will show you how good Minecraft can look without changing the aesthetic of default Minecraft. The color scheme is practically the same and the changes aren’t drastic, it’s just some details that are tweaked and a few advancements here and there that make this texture pack so pleasant to have in the game.
Xray Ultimate

And now it’s time for the most useful texture pack on this list which you probably really anticipated seeing. Xray is really useful, especially if you have better things to do than mining and just want to fight and explore or troll your friends. You don’t need any mods for this texture pack to run – just make sure you have Optifine for the best experience.
PvP
Do you want to feel cool while pvping in Minecraft? I know I certainly do so I left some pvp texture packs you might like. The way you feel can increase how well you pvp!
Chroma Faithful

Faithful is one of the most well known texture packs in the Minecraft community – it’s good for survival but boring for PVP, so that’s why Chroma Faithful will make your PVP experience much more fun. It tweaks the original Faithful texture pack just a little bit so you can have a lot of interesting and fun textures in the chroma aesthetic.Â
Tiny PVP Swords and Tools

If you don’t want to change your textures significantly but still want that little tweak so you can fight better, then I think you’ll like this texture pack. Tiny PVP Swords and Tools basically makes all your tools and weapons in the game tiny, which is quite funny when you look at some of them and I can see myself using this in regular Minecraft just for the lols.
FantasyPvP’s PvP packs

If you really want to be cool and solely focus on PVP then you should download the FantasyPvP’s PvP packs. This texture pack will give you an advantage in the game because it’ll make you feel really cool – the swords are designed so well and I just love how minimalistic everything is along with the beautiful night sky.
FutureNeo

This is also one of the really cool PVP texture packs that’ll give you an advantage in PVP because it’ll make you feel really good while using it. FutureNeo has a unique aesthetic that looks really professional and neat where light blue and purple colors completely dominate all the textures.
Aimz – Lunar Orbit PVP Crosshair

And the last texture pack isn’t anything that special like the previous ones. If you’re annoyed by any of the crosshairs you find in the game you can just slap this texture pack on top of the one you’re using to get this really cool compact crosshair.
Realistic
If you’re tired of Minecraft’s cartoony look or just want to switch to something more realistic that can go well with your shaders, you should take a look at these texture packs.
Realism Mats

This is one of the most realistic texture packs for Minecraft that currently exists. I know I’d never run this because my laptop would severely struggle. Unfortunately, the link I left is a free demo and not the full version of the texture pack that can be bought through their original site. In my opinion, if you play Minecraft a lot, it’s really worth buying – especially if you combine it with some cool shaders.
Realistico

Realistico pays an incredible amount of detail to all textures in the game and it will completely change the way you feel when playing Minecraft. It doesn’t alter the game too much so it still looks like the classic Minecraft you know and love. Honestly it’s best to play these kinds of texture packs with shaders on for a really unique experience.Â
Misa’s Realistic

And now if you’re looking for something that’s realistic but also not too realistic then I think you’ll like Misa’s Realistic a lot. The texture pack has a lot of fun additions and tweaks that make it worth experiencing and the fact that it’s free makes it even better. Misa’s Realistic will tire your eyes way less and make long playtimes more durable which is something I really enjoy about this texture pack.
Realistic Sky

If you just want to change how your skies look without affecting the ingame textures then you should try out Realistic Sky Legacy. This texture pack also has a premium version that you have to pay for, it adds over 50 sky textures that vary from biome to biome, and adapt to the weather, which in retrospect makes the game look cooler.
How to Install a Minecraft Texture Pack
So to keep this short and fast as possible here’s a really quick summarized guide on how to download and install texture packs into Minecraft. Or if you’re unsure and want to make sure you’re doing things right, just take a look at the steps down below.
How to download and install a Minecraft texture pack:
- Download the texture pack
- Open Minecraft
- Go to Options
- Click on Resource Packs
- Then head to the Open Pack Folder
- Put the downloaded texture pack into the folder
- And then just select it after adding it and click Done
And that’s pretty much it. Just make sure you have the right version of Minecraft downloaded that’s compatible with the texture pack you imported into the game – and just so you know, some texture packs have certain requirements like OptiFine and certain settings inside OptiFine that need to be turned on in order for it to work.
But don’t worry, all that will be disclosed on the texture packs download page. Also, take into consideration that some texture packs have higher resolutions and may make your game slower if you have a low-end PC.
